I've made the decision that I will support my lovely wife's wish to see it again by suggesting that she go with her girlfriends to see it.  This way I get at least six hours of uninterrupted  game play.  I used the simple mathematical equation of: 2hrs for dinner + .25hrs of previews +2hrs movie length+ 1hr post movie drinks +.75hrs of total drive time =6hrs.  :x

Good news: the movie is a little over 3 hours long.

Yes please so we can get good movies minus the 3D.

Although at this point I would take good movies with the 3D.

...and no fish were harmed in the making of this movie. One grip did run over a chicken while pushing the iceburg.

P.S. I don't know if anyone would consider that photo above offensive... I don't think it is and don't mean it to be.  :salute

I find it offensive that the drawing paper is in the way.  :)

Titanic was a chick flick but it was pretty decent.  Billy Zane was awesome as the dbag, err - villain.
The 3D gimmick is probably as hokey now as it always was.  Just another excuse to get you in the theater without making a new movie.

I'll get flamed for this so...

Asbestos undies - check!

Titanic is a good movie IMHO. Disclaimer: since as long as I can remember, I've been fascinated by the Titanic (by the Hindenburg too but I digress...).

Before James Cameron made this movie, I had read and watched a lot about it, good (A Night to Rememeber by Walter Lord,...) and bad (Raise the Titanic by Clive Cussler,...). I remember when they discovered the wreck and bought the excellent book about its discovery by Ballard from the WHOI*.

When I heard that Hollywood was making a new movie about it, I thought 'Oh boy, this is gonna be awful'. I had respect for Cameron making sci-fi movies but I dreaded some kind of action-thriller loosely connected to the historical events. Then I heard that there would be a lot of romance and I thought 'this is gonna be BEYOND awful!'.

Well, I was wrong. The recreation of the ship, the depicting of the events, even the cast with actors looking a lot like the real people (Capt. Smith, Bruce Ismay, architect Andrews, Molly Brown,...) were way above my expectations. Even the romance part wasn't too bad.

Titanic is a movie that I enjoy rewatching from time to time. It has absolutely nothing in common with junk like Pearl Harbor or U-571.

There, I said it.

edit: that being said, the 3D version wasn't needed IMO, and I won't go watch it. But I guess that Hollywood couldn't let pass the centennial of the event without trying to make easy bucks from it.

* I highly recommend it to you. The same team also published a book about finding the Bismarck that every WWII interested people should have read at least once.

My 16 year old daughter and her friends loved the 3d version.

2d was enough for me.

Movies originally shot with film dont translate to Digital 3D very well. I went to see Star Wars l in 3d and it looked terrible. The problem is the colors wash and the lighting goes bad, it used to be the curse of 3D in general until the new wave of Digital cams came out. Like the ones used in Avatar.

Bottom line. If it wasnt shot recently in Digital dont bother going to the 3D. Use the dough to buy a BR copy and you can see it as many times as you want on the HD in your living room.
