And THIS is one of the MANY reasons why I’m glad I’m not single!
She’s cleaning her Grandmother’s house tonight… She does this once every week…and I am enjoying… actually really enjoying, an evening of Mac & cheese covered with diced Spam. It is being eaten with a 1940’s mess kit spoon, and supported by several beers. (They are ’light’ beers because I told her I would watch what I eat.)…
Although it is great to eat like this one a week, it would kill me if I did it every night!
I also prepared this, this evening…

I placed 3 good cigars in a sealed “Crown” (the Canadian version of a Mason) jar with a shot glass full of Birddog blackberry whiskey… These cigars will sit and infuse with the whiskey until two friends stop by, and we feel the need to discuss matters of interest, but little importance… She has always understood my need to do odd things like this!
For 27 years, I have been a VERY lucky man.

Many Congratulations, G0ALY! Enjoy your evening....
:)

Congrats G0ALY! You've made it a whole lot longer than what I expect most of the people my age will make it. I hope I can one day spend that many years with someone

Congrats!

Seven years this week. But not sure if it will be eight. Not after this evening, no argument. That's the problem, no argument.

Cpxxx you cannot judge anything by a time frame as small as “THIS EVENING“… There have been DAYS when I did not LIKE my spouse. But I have always LOVED her.

'light' ?

Final straw, I'm afraid. Gave it every opportunity. Don't want it to be true. Really I don't want that. In the end you have to get real. It wasn't just this evening.

Don't I know what you mean. I too have been married for 28 years and I could not even imagine any woman putting up with my BS. I have different things I like to do (riding horses at night, flying RC stuff, working in my shop till 3 am for weeks on end, having my buddies over for a few drinks) the list just goes on and on. Why she sticks with me I will never know but God only knows how much I love that girl.
The kicker is, she is a very beautiful girl and could find a better suiter in a moments notice. Its not like I'm the best she could ever do but for reasons beyond my ability to comprehend, She loves me.
Everyone should be so lucky.

That is awesome! I am going to have to try that with a cigar now...
What cigar are you using?
Congrats on the 27 year celebration sir. I have one observation though... MAN it has been forever since I saw a rotary dial phone!

Must be a bugger to text with.

I honestly don’t know the name of the cigars… When I thought about doing this, I explained to the owner of the cigar shop what I was trying to do, and asked for mild and tight wrapped (because I guessed the added humidity might loosen the leaf) decent cigars. I went solely on their recommendation. I bought four cigars and left one out of the jar so it could be used to see what difference the whiskey infusion makes.
About the phone, It’s not just any old rotary dial…
(http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/7913/phonea.jpg)
Its from the 1940s made by General Electric for the Bell system. It’s made out of Bakelite ( polyoxybenzylmethylenglycolan hydride ) so the handset alone weighs over a full pound. Our local phone system still recognizes pulse signals, so this is the phone that I use most of the time. It’s fun to watch people who have never actually “Dialed” a telephone try to use it.
This phone is in the kitchen.

It’s a Stromberg Carlson 1918 model.
I added pieces from a cheap old rotary telephone, so you can actually answer incoming calls on it. The long wood dowel rod connects the handset cradle to the on/off switch of the ‘modern’ (1960s) electronics. This old phone had been mostly gutted before I got it, so I didn’t feel too bad about tinkering with the inside.

You certainly can’t text with this phone. But you can dial out if you are nimble. You have to tap the headset cradle down in rapid clicks for each number. Two taps for the number 2. Or ten taps for the “Zero”. It’s like you are using Morse code to make a call.
Like I said when I started this thread, I’m a lucky man. For 27 years I’ve had a wife who doesn’t mind that I waste my time with odd projects like these.
