Regards,
Sun
An unusual spring storm in the Texas Panhandle Wednesday afternoon dumped two to four feet of hail near Dumas.
Trucks were reported sliding off the road on Highway 287 as a result of the unexpected weather phenomenon. Snow plows were being used to clear the roads.
Some vehicles were trapped in the drifts of hailstones.
Chief Meteorologist Pete Delkus said a tornado watch was in effect for the Panhandle region through 10 p.m. Wednesday, and the storms were moving very slowly between Pampa and Dumas north of Amarillo and to the east of Dalhart.
Melting hail and heavy rain triggered flash flooding in the Panhandle.

We had a freak hailstorm like that in the late '80's. We only got about a foot, but it sounded like a warzone for 20 minutes. :O

The only White Christmas I ever had in the United States was in Tucson Az while I was stationed there in the 80s.
Sooner or later the weather will do something rare in any area. It's not the end of the world.
Just don't tell this guy that.

The hail storm was about 20 miles north of my house, I drove up there and took some pictures I can post later if you like
Now to clear up a few myths, it only hailed about 4 inches along with around 6 inches of rain which caused a lot of runoff that gathered the 4 inches of hail and washed it down stream and into the drainage gates under the highway , blocking them and making for a lot of water over the road, the 4 foot tall hail drifts are from the banks of the creeks and one from the short plane down stream from the grates,
While it is amazing to see 4 inches of hail, 4 feet of hail didn't fall, it simply collected, it has happened here many times, just not on a major highway to often,, this is only the second time I've seen it across a highway ,the first time was by Stratford Texas back in the early 90s when a similar storm happened over an ancient plia lake that highway 54 ran thru, as well as a railroad ,, the road was closed for most of the summer while the lake was pumped out, the hail from that storm was 4 to 6 feet deep in the ditches of the highway about a 1/4 mile from the lake and didn't melt for a month That storm produced 10 inches of rain and about 8 inches of hail!
