Title: Old muscle car commercial
Post by: Rob52240 on April 18, 2012, 01:32:49 PM
I found this to be surprisingly funny.  I wonder how many 1970 Chodge Dargers it helped them sell.

The 1st time I ever seen that pistol grip shifter was in a 1970 AAr Cuda. Gawd what sweet works of art those old Mopars were/are. If I knew then what I know now, I would have bought as many as I could have got my hands on.

Funny thing is, my family was real good friends with a guy that owned a Dodge/Plymouth dealership in Virginia. And when the Superbirds came out he couldn't hardly give those cars away. Folks would look at that big fin, roll their eyes and walk away. Damn I wish I could go back in time. I've have those things all over my yard and in every color of the rainbow.  :old:

LOL . well .. there went a couple hours.
Just cool old school commercials and muscle cars.

And aye, during the gas crunch in '73 there was a used car lot a couple blocks from me..useda drive by it every day on the way to work.
Now an then I would stop in and test drive one of their hot rods.

ie:
'70 Hemi Superbird, 4 speed ..$850 is what they wanted for it and it had 20k miles on it.
'68 427 435hp 4 gear Vette roadster .. $950
'58 327 4 gear vette, red w/white coves, cragar S/S's, tunnel ram ..squirrely very quick hot rod $850
'57 Chebby Bel Air, Red, 327, 4 gear, $700

..and so on.

People were dumpin their gas guzzlers and shootin theirselves in the foot tryin to get rid of some very classic rides.
Couple guys in my shop asked me what to do with their re-enlistment bonus to make a good investment.
They both ended up buyin stock numbers matching 1960 Corvettes on my advice
Neither one cost more than a grand.
.. their value skyrocketed very quickly after the gas crunch was over.

Right now .. the big gas guzzlers are takin a serious hit again.
A Hemi GTX can be had for less than 100k, stock ..collector car condition.

A hot rod Hemi Belvedere I found listed for 29k
..Ray Barton 498, Torqueflite, 4k converter, runs 11's w/license plates and needs bigger tires for a fact :)
If I could I'd be drivin that right now.

I wonder how many takes it took before they didn't bury that tank to the axle in the sand?
