Title: How bout a P40 to go with those 20 buried Spits?

Seeing pics of those time capsules just never gets old!

Hopefully everything goes smoothly for the plane from now on and it gets recovered without any issues.

Post by: Krusty on April 19, 2012, 10:05:54 PM: Man, that thing took a beating! Would have been better to do it on the soft sand, probably. That looks in really good shape, though. Sand blasted most of the paint off, but the cockpit is suprisingly intact.

I bet somebody will start working on salvaging it pretty soon.

This would be my guess, they were also the only people there in any form of uniform, and I'd suspect the Egyptian military is as keen to looters getting their hands on those MGs as most anyone else.

Any ordnance guys know how stable (or unstable) 70-year-old ammo might be, especially since it is Sahara-Baked? Are most going to be duds? If I found 70-year-old explosive cannon shells I think I'd be a lot more cautious.

It will be interesting to see if the plane gets salvaged.
