Thought I would try something different today, and loaded some rockets to use on a shore battery. They made a nice deoration to the wing, that was it. What in the world do you do to fire the danged things??? Tried hitting R and also B - what's the secret? Any info would help.

Hit backspace (the default for switching weapons) until you see RKT. Then hit "b" (the default for firing secondary). :aok

Exactly what Volron said. When you have extra weapons such as bombs or rockets on a fighter, you have to select them first, and then fire them.

I have a fancy button on the joystick I use :joystick:

rarely have i ever hit anything with them whether I get them to fire or not :bhead

Training is available by appointment in the training arena.

Thanks for the input, I'll give that a try next time around.

You can go to the TA and turn on the lead computing gunsight to get an idea of how to aim them.
Also, in the bombing area in the NE (I think) you can take off from the airspawns (North spawn?) and be immediately at 10K, dive in on the nearest base and repeat.

There is no need to turn on the LCG for rockets, that is for guns only.
The training 'impact' sight is always on in the TA for Bombs or rockets. All you have to do is select them.

I knew there was something. Thanks Fuze.

You were probably thinking of offline Shiv. If you want destructible targets you can load the TA terrain, start AH offline, go to options/Arena Setup/Environment/Arena Settings and click on flight mode flags then select divebomb sight. Air spawn NE from A20 - A23.

It takes some practice. Once you get to be a decent aim, rockets are very handy for taking out ack guns.
However, shooting at shore batteries would take a lot of rockets. Shore batteries need 4K of bombs, if I remember correctly.

A fully armed F6F-5 Hellcat can destroy a SB with its 2x 1000lb bombs, it's 6 rockets and machine guns.

Do the math on that and you will see just how much of the .50 cal ammo has to be used. :aok
the 5in rockets have 156 lbs of dmg each (X6). So roughly 936 lbs of damage from the rockets, 2000 lbs of damage from the 2X 1k bombs,... so that makes for just shy of 3000 lbs of damage from ordnance alone. To make up that 1000 lbs at least 4 passes is going to be needed and most likely 5 or 6 passes. Lots of long drawn out bursts, for sure. But it certainly can be done.
The F4U-C variant is a good "go to" navy plane for use against the SB. Same ordnance load but over 4X the damage available in the quad 20mm's. :aok

Yes, from memory, many gun passes in an F6F-5. Usually a pesky enemy realizes what your up to and interrupts your fun.
