Title: I committed aviation today
Post by: Tupac on April 21, 2012, 10:02:46 PM
The first beautiful day in awhile where my allergies werent killing me and I went to fly! I flew down to a fly-in a friend was having at Cannon field (a grass strip) and BS'd and had BBQ. Here's a picture of my plane in the petting zoo

After lunch they had a flour bombing contest, and I figured my expertise in AH Dive bombing would do me well, so I asked my buddy Jordan if he would sit right seat and I would drop the flour. They gave us a deck of 200', which would mean we would have to level bomb! The first drop was several hundred feet short, but I told Jordan that I got my bearings and was going to hit it on the money next pass around. (They only give us two flour bags) Jordan lined up and I had him make small corrections, and I dropped......SPLAT! 30' short of the barrel, and the closest anyone got of the day. I was the only person who was dropping short, everyone else dropped WAYYY long.

After the flour bombing we flew back to Boerne in formation which was neat. I've done formation before, but always with an airplane slower than mine. We had a happy medium of about 125 knots so he wasnt in slow flight, but that was about as fast as the ol' skyhawk will go. It was neat calling up San Antonio approach as a "Flight of two".I got the camera app on my iphone going and pointed it backwards towards where Jordan was and it took some good pictures.

After we left San Antonios airspace, Jordan put a little bit of distance between us and rolled inverted...because.....becaus e.....this is America.

What a great day!

Sounds like a fun day.  Did any of those tail dragger guys give grief about showing up in an airplane with a training wheel in the front?   :D.   :aok

I'm waiting for Golfer's post about how unsafe this all was, and how the FAA can save us all with regulations, and how you'll look back in ten years on this post and somehow be ashamed of this day.

The last thing I'm an advocate of is MORE regulation.  Especially when it comes to regulating stupid which time and again we as humanity prove it can't be done.

I'm in a glass house on this one.

I think our intrepid teenage aviator is just going to actually have to scare himself. It'll happen.

Like my parents attitude when I was a kid:

Have fun, don't get hurt.

They did until I got second place in the spot landing contest  :D

I got beat by a Husky by like 10'. A husky is like cheating

I've scared myself plenty. You seem to think I'm deficient in ever having anything skeery happen to me, however that is not the case.

Don't get wrapped around the axle at every little thing you perceive as negative.

You might find I'm one of your biggest advocates if you'd just stop and realize it.

I really didn't perceive it as negative, I just wanted to clarify

Well done!   :aok  Especially competing against a Husky.  It's akin to a spot landing contest with a helicopter.
