When I start my computer, it gives me this message before loading the OS: "A disk read error has occured, Press cntrl+alt+del to restart". When restarted it goes back and does the same thing. Any suggetions on what it could be or what to do to get windows to start?

Set your BIOS to boot from the CD drive. Put your Windows disk in and see if it can fix your HD.

Sounds like a possible bad sector Dace - go to my computer, right click on the affected disc, open up the tools tab and schedule a disk check. Or open up a command prompt box (under accessories) and run chkdsk /f - this will check your disc and attempt to repair any errors etc. When you input that command, it should say it needs to be done when files are not in use, do you want to schedule for when your computer gets rebooted. Click on yes and restart your machine.
hope this helps,

I think he's having trouble bootstrapping into any operating system. Sounds like a bad disk sector in a critical boot area. I think you need "Spinrite".

Doh, I should have probably read that properly huh - you can use spinrite, or hirens boot cd - which runs a min xp engine. With hirens, you can run chkdsk from a commmand prompt (syntax would be chkdsk /f c: (or whatever drive letter hirens assigns to your computer hard drive.
You will need a computer to d/l and burn to disk tho.
