From the general forum.
1. WWII condensed into a tour long war with a starting date of september 1939.
2. Introduce a Rolling planeset in which planes become available when the date of the arena matches the date of the first known missions of said plane.
So how does this work? One tour equals 6 years? 2 months equals one year? 5 days equals a month? How do we run all the different theatres at the same time?

The resposibily of developing the idea should fall soley to icepac.
There's no need for any discussion.
It's that simple

Why? wouldn't a discussion help flesh out a possible idea? I dont think that would help at all. Getting multiple opinions might actually spark a actual working plan.

icepac has all the answers.

germany map, or arden map for closer bases.
2 week setup
each year, 2 days
1939-45
change planeset every 2 days.
winner is the side that......captures the most bases?? knocks down strats? leaves most un-molested sheep?? :D

You know we could take his idea just like anyone elses and pick it apart and maybe get some good from it.

No PAc maps or anywhere else? You could even run the same time line back to back just in different areas to make sure all the bigger battles are there.
-
that would involve changed entire setups. so we would need to change to a new terrain, set up all the planes and bases and settings. this would involve atleast 1-1.5 hours of admin work. if we leave it Europe, we only need deal with one map and different planes, which is much easier to work with.

Jimson,
I have a two week RPS that runs from '39 to '45 for the ETO, MTO and PTO. It's a linear time line with the sources listed as well. You could stretch each one out to a month if you wanted to or run them as three consecutive TOD's for a total of six weeks. If you're interested I can send them to you and you can see if they'll work.

Sure, let's have a look.

I would say that you would have to start in the spring of 1940 with the invasion of France. We dont have any planes for Poland or Holland.

That's true, even if we wanted to do France how can you do without any French fighters? What I'm thinking(very little) Is at the earliest where can we jump off at without poor substitutions for ac that aren't in game?

One week equals a year, runs 6-weeks. Each week finishes with a battle from that year.
Week 1 (39/40) Battle of Britain
Week 2 (41) Pearl Harbor
Week 3 (42) North Africa
Week 4 (43) Eastern Front
Week 5 (44) Battle over Germany
Week 6 (45) Okinawa
More an SEC or AVA but could be fun. You could have FSO squads take lead in organizing one side, one week.

We ran an FSO last year that had P-40Cs subbing for P-36s as well Hurri 1s and Spit 1s. Clearly we need the D.520. as nothing in the current AH planeset makes a good substitute.

but what about eastern front early war? I 16s and Brewsters must fight!

Not that simple, the brew eats up the I16. Yould have to enforce a numerical advantage of at least 2:1 in favor the I16. Remember, I16s did not have the 20mm cannons at this time. Even then, cannons only help when you get behind your enemy.

hmmm we need the yak3 already.
which planes could we use as the beggining of barbarossa?
didn't hungary have some 109E's fighting back early aswell?
-
hmmm we need the yak3 already. The Yak3 was not introduced until mid June 44, The Yak1 was starting to be introduced when Barborossa was launched. Only 92 were built by then, most were destroyed in the first week.
which planes could we use as the beggining of barbarossa? 109E/F, 110C, ju87, ju88, i16, il2, maybe use the p-39d sa a sub for the yak1.
didn't hungary have some 109E's fighting back early aswell? not until 1942

hmmmm thank you, sir.

A two week war has been found to be a good timeline elsewhere so it's possible that an entire tour would be too long.
The rolling planeset does expose the holes in our current planeset, though.

This is a map I would someday like to see. One that contains all major theatres of the war.
Normally we favor small maps but this one would have to be large. It would also have to be less detailed and way out of scale. You would also have to skew things to get the major countries more or less covered.
For geographic accuracy it would be an abomination.
It would also require a lot of custom tile work to get different vegetation types and such on the same map.
It's possible to build a 30K wall to separate east and west and with a wind downdraft at 28k or so, no one would be able to fly a zero over Germany.
With something like this we could offer more planes at the same time but keep them in battle against their historical adversaries.
It would be even better if we had a 4th country, rooks vs bish in the east and knights vs pawns in the west. That way you would know from the roster who was playing where but without that I guess you would have to look for radar and base flashing to know where the action was.
We could also run a timeline event that encompasses the war as a whole.
It would be a huge effort to build it and I don't have the necessary skills, but maybe someday
