Title: Republic P47-C
Post by: 4Prop on May 05, 2012, 02:16:47 PM
The first Thunderbolt to be considered truly combat-ready was the P-47C-2-RE.
Perhaps the most important change introduced by this production block was the provision for shackles and
a release mechanism for a bomb or a fuel tank on the underside of the belly.  When carrying a 200-gallon
belly tank the range was extended to 1250 miles at an altitude of 10,000 feet.
The P-47C was the first Thunderbolts to see combat in Europe.
602 P-47Cs were delivered by February 1943, when the improved P-47D replaced it on the production line.
The P-47C-5 which introduced a new whip antenna and the R-2800-59 engine with water-methanol injection with a war emergency power rating of 2,300 hp

How would it handle in comparison to the P-47D-11?

well it was an earlier model so i would think it would be slower. probably not climb as good and not carry as much ammo. I'll have to check up on it

UPDATE: early C models were un stable.had rudder and elevation balance problems but by 1942 they had most of the problems fixed and sent em to fight.

You'd probably be better served asking for a D-23.

The D-11 fills in fine for SEA stuff and frankly adding something for MW doesn't make a lot of sense when ther are far more important birds needed to fill both MW and SEA plane sets.

The P-47D-11 is already in the Mid War Arena.
I'm a huge fan of Jugs, I love the P-47 as well.  :aok

D-23 would be nice. However, we have the D-25would cover that. The "C" would be a nice addition to early war along with the P-38F.

The C Model was slightly faster then the D models.

I like P47s but see no importance in adding it to the game.  The D11 fills in nicely.

I was thinking more in terms of wanting another razorback Jug.  Payload etc would work better across both the arenas and special events.

Not that I'd turn down another 38 variant :)  but the F and G flew alongside each other so the G really covers that one like the D-11 fills in for a 47C.

D-23 is the last razorback. It would be D11 with longer range, wing hard points and... paddle blade prop. Possibly the best dogfighter out of the D series. If we could have only 1 jug model in AH, this is the one I would ask for.

D-25 is an early bubble top and its true merit is the pretty skins that we have for it. Otherwise it is the "worst" of the AH jugs (by a very narrow margin).

C will be the same as the D11 for all practical purposes. Depending on how old a "C" you want to make it the main difference will be the loss of the WEP.
