Title: The Avengers movie
Post by: PFactorDave on May 05, 2012, 02:39:15 PM
So yesterday...

Kids were both gone for the evening, so the wife wanted to have a "Date Night"...  You middle aged guys knows what that usually means...  Nice dinner out, crappy chick flick movie, then home where she will still be feeling bloated from the big dinner and all the popcorn...  So, sex is a long shot.   :rofl

But it's FSO night, was my first thought.  Fortunately, I was wise enough to keep that protest to myself.

Anyway, it just so happens that there aren't any movies playing that she wants to see.  So, I look at the listings...  Hmmm...  Not much...  But...  The Avengers opens tonight.  Now, we don't normally go to movies on opening night.  We just don't like the crowds.  But what the heck, nothing else is playing that either of us want to see.

So, I get on Fandango and buy our tickets before we go to dinner.

Nice dinner.  We get to the theater a little earlier then normal.  Turned out to be good timing, we got our popcorn and drinks and were first into the theater.  So, we got the dead center about 2/3rds of the way back seats that we like.  Theater filled up quickly, but as luck would have it, the seat directly in front of me just happened to be broken so nobody sat in front of me.   :aok

The movie was very good.  Much better then I had hoped or expected.  Joss Whedon really does know how to make a good SciFi/Comic Book movie.  No spoilers, but there is a particular moment near the end when the Hulk fights Loki (the main bad guy) that made the movie worth watching all in its own right.

So, if you have any interest in seeing it...  I highly recommend it.

Oh...  No sex...  Too bloated feeling from the dinner and popcorn as expected.   :rofl  All in all it was a pretty good evening anyway.

You'll enjoy it.  That moment with the Hulk that I alluded to earlier is so awesome and so perfectly Hulk...  The rest of the movie is good too.  :aok

when the Hulk fights Loki anyway.

I had tears in my eyes laughing at this scene, good bit of humor in this movie and good fight scenes.

Wife commented that the Hulk made the movie.

I told her he just got all the best lines :)

(He doesn't talk much)

We went to the nooner matinee on opening day, beat the rush a bit ..was great entertainment.

Mark of a good flick is ..it did not seem like we were in there that long, always somethin goin on.

We grabbed a bite of lunch afterward .. no bloated feeling (wink wink nudge)

Several scenes had the theater lit up laughin hard .. was worth seeing in a theater just for that.

I'm guessing that Loki learned not to do the villain monologue with the Hulk.   :rofl

We went to the 2D showing.  The 3D movies tend to give me a bit of a headache.

I think The Avengers is one of those movies that benefits from the theater screen and sound.

The Loki-Hulk scene was just awesome. I highly recommend this movie to anyone, it's one of the best I've seen in a long time!

I work for a media company that owns a theater currently showing the movie, so far several of us watch the movie once a night after hours just because it's so darn good. Heck one of our employees has seen it 8 times already. Worth the ticket price IMO.

Simply excellent action movie.  No heavy thought required, but entertaining as hell.  If you liked any of the lead-up individual movies, I think you'll probably like this one.  Hulk stole the show.  Everything they had him do was gold.

Saw it in 3D, as my eyes aren't bothered by it.  Loved it.  Definitely worth a big screen viewing 2D or 3D just for the spectacle IMO.

Wiley.

I thought Iron Man had some of the best lines.

To Bruce Banner:
"You did amazing things in the studies of gamma radiation Dr. Banner, your work is unparalleled. And I'm a huge fan of the way you lose control and turn into an enormous green rage monster. "

Hulk, pretty much.  Thor and Loki...  are whatever the plot needs them to be.  I'm a bit fuzzy on the details, but the gist of it is their armor/weapons have a lot more technology going on with them behind the scenes than is apparent.  It's basically 'technology that looks like magic to us'.  Added strength, massive damage absorption, etc etc.

My brother went to see it last night. Now my brother isn't a very excitable persion (he gave Anchor Man a "meh, it was pretty good", and Captian America a "3 outa 5"), but he came home at 1:30, and decided the movie was good enough to wake me up and tell me how amazing it was  :lol.
