I am so jealous, I wish a P38 would make it's way to the sun-n-fun :frown: I would love to see one fly in person. Maybe I can convince the wife to go out to CA wit me next year. Nice pics!

Great stuff Wurz! Any background on that unpainted early P40?
That's one I've not seen before.

Is it a throwback from one of the unpainted test planes from 1940? IINM, they had a handful of them.

pretty sure this is correct....I believe there were 3 or 4 of them.

I was wondering more about the airframe. There have been three recent well known restorations of early 40s. This one wasn't on the radar anywhere. A nice surprising 4th early bird. Wondering if it's static or an actual flyer?

DOH! I Flipn' swore I briefly glimpsed you and your misses walking through the crowd there. I was in a rush though from point A to B to pause or double-back as they had just shut down the flight line and pre-flight preps were under way.
I got to meet up with Semp and Razor though shortly after that. Hope to see you again sometime Wurzel.

No worries Bab, didn't know I was going till the last minute - so no time to put up a "who's going" thread. Hope to catch up with ya sometime.
Sorry Dan, nothing on a board about the P40, nothing in the booklet I got there either.

Thanks for sharin :)
Far as I know all the aircraft at Chino are flyers
.. they do a lot of buildups-rebuild-repairs for museums/owners that are flown out
and they have a lot of their own museum planes that they cycle through restoration as they get worn out.
'Picadilly Lilly' useda be parked out front ..the B-17 used to film '12 O' Clock High' long ago.
Chino also hosts fighter group reunions
..went to one years ago featuring 'Satan's Angels'
..had the honor of listenin to Tommy McGuire's wingman and a few others talk about life in the Pacific Theater.
Was worth every moment.

in 1940 the USAAC received 3 P40B's that were Bare Metal that is one I believe.

I get the scheme. I'm wondering about the story on this particular airframe and whether it will be a flier. There have been three other early P40s restored in the last few years. This one is a 4th and was not on Anyone's radar. I'd never seen it mentioned anywhere.

Think I'll email the planes of fame people, see if they have any info - dagnabit folks, stop making me curious about stuff I know nothing about, ya buggers ;) :D

You are so lucky you got to see the 190 in flight, when I was at the EAA the left it on the ground :(.
