Title: Axis vs Allies Arena Saturday 9PM Eastern U.S.
Post by: Oddball-CAF on May 15, 2012, 10:02:04 PM
Gents,
The squadron "Operations Officer" for The 47 Ronin is currently away
for a few weeks at Air Force NCO school. While he's gone, I'm pickin' up
the slack.
That being said, I'm kinda burned out on the Late War arena and as the
guys who run the Axis vs Allies arena are trying to stir up some business, I
thought it might be an interesting change of venue for our "Squad Night".
The problem is that I think if I bring a dozen guys in there on Saturday
night, that it's gonna skew the numbers one way or the other. (I know we
could split up into two countries, but I'd prefer not to.)
So, consider this an invitation to any and all squads or unaffiliated pilots
to join us in the Axis vs Allies arena for some ops on Saturday night, 19 MAY,
at 9PM Eastern U.S. time.
If you've not been in there in some time, I flew in there a couple of hours
tonight, and here's the basic deal.
Enemy icons are off. As in you -never- see them, and thus have to
ascertain the plane type (tough with my old system) on your own.
Same with energy states. With no icon "telling" you the rate of closure,
it's very much a guessing game. It's quite fascinating actually.
Anyway, friendly icons show at 3.0K, maximum range is set to 8K.
I did notice that it was very easy to determine where all the enemy
planes were via the map/radar screen. Rather than a dar bar, you got
solid reports of where each enemy was on the map.
All in all, it was a positive experience and a pleasant change of pace
from the Late War arena.
I look forward to seein' some of you guys in there.

Regards, Odd

Don't let this guy fool you.  He was running rings around me in a 39Q tonite.

Looking forward to this, will try to be there.

This is the BBC Home Service,
Highly placed sources have indicated that a "Battle of Britain" setup may
be put into place on Friday in anticipation of the arrival of numerous pilots
of both Axis and Allied persuasion.
As of now, The 47 Ronin is committed, and based on the numbers
on hand at the beginning of our "Squad Night" festivities will engage
in either pure fighter sweeps/intercepts or combined bomber/escort
missions.
ie: if we're flying British and there aren't enough Axis fighter pilots,
we'll cut our number of fighters down by lifting bombers along with
our fighters. This'll help balance things out a bit fighter vs fighter.
Our Squad Night starts at 9PM every Saturday night at 9PM Eastern
U.S. time.
  See you guys there. <S>

Best regards, Odd

Regardless what you may have heard about Spitfires vs Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain, it was the P-38 Lightning that saved England!!         :bolt:

May The Emperor's gonads never rest upon your chin!
The guys who run the Axis vs Allies arena have been workin' their
tails off trying to make it "work". I'm hoping we can get a decent
turnout.
If it pans out and there's a sufficient number of pilots in total
attending, and if my herd finds it fun, I'd push my Command
Staff (Blue Ox, Mounty, and Awacs) to perhaps run ops in there
on alternating Squad Nights. ie: one week we have it in the Late
War Arena, and next week in the Axis vs Allies.
Or perhaps all of us together could come up with a designated
evening during the week when we try to hook up in there and
get some numbers goin'. (and some good fights)
It's a fascinating change of pace from the Late War setup and
if we stick at it, I can see it becoming a viable alternative to the
Late War arena down the road. If guys log on and see 30 or 40
pilots in there on a given night, maybe they'll have more of a
tendency to hop in there and take a look around.
When I flew in there the other night, I had a lot of fun. My only
beef is that the visibility range was 8K, which gave things
that night a kind of washed out look when looking off into the
distance. ie: very hazy appearance.
Good luck and good hunting to all. <S>
