Title: What type of battery?
Post by: Rondar on May 21, 2012, 09:28:08 AM
I have an extra 12 volt radio/cd player and I want to put it in my garage for some tunes.  I actually have it hooked up right now to a portable air compressor and 12volt car jumper via the 12 volt lighter plug on it.  I also installed a Warn winch in the garage so as to hoist my mowers and stuff up to work on the underneath sides ( just raise the front, not whole ztr mower).  Would I want to get a marine type battery for extended usage for the radio or get a regular car battery and dont let it get too discharged? I have a battery tender that I can use to maintain either type of battery.  Warn winch will be used only occasionally.

Have you looked into a power inverter?  I know they make them DC to AC and I would imagine they have them that go the other way as well.  The car audio places have to use something other than battery banks to power their displays.

I recommend a 12v power supply.  Depending on the power necessary for the winch, it may be cheaper than a battery.

Wouldnt it be cheaper to just get a radio that works on 120V instead of buying an inverter?
