When we were getting close to rotating back to the states, They called us "Short" or "Short-Timers", & used to say, "Going back to the World". We took pictures of our helmet(The Old Steel Pots) on top of a flack Jacket, on top of Boots & put the picture on our barracks door. After we had 2 weeks left we changed it to Helmet & boots alone....can't find that Picture anywhere... :old:

(http://www.ichiban1.org/images/short_timer.jpg)  found one... :salute

I'll see if I can get some pics Vet.  I used disposable cameras, as I had a bad habit of breaking them during combat.  Many of my would've-been-my favorite pictures were destroyed before I could get them developed.  I do have a few hundred photos, but none on pc.  I don't have a scanner but I'll see if I can track one down.

Actually I'm not in that picture. My son is the soldier on the far right. He did two tours with the 1st Cavalry Division. Well actually a tour and a half he was badly wounded on February 5th 2007 during his second tour and airlifted to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio TX. His older brother also did a tour in Iraq with the 4th Infantry Division. I have nothing but respect for all of you young men that have served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Vet, the only pic of me in the Army that I have on my pc was taken in South America while doing narco ops.  Doesn't help much with the facial recognition. :)  I need to find a scanner.

I did my Vark time at RAF Upper Heyford. 20th TFW 55th TFS with F-111Es, which were a regular strike version of the F-111. They got EF-111 Sparkvarks there a few years after I left.
I was there from 1980 to 1983, then went to DM from 1983-1992.
