Realistic damage to vehicles in games like battlefield and world of tanks :x

well, time to upgrade CPU, GPU and so on... ;)

Amazing look to it. Wonder what the in use time will be.
I have no idea how long it takes to go from where it is now to being used in a game.

Didn't it say that was part of CryEngine 3? If so, about a year until Crysis 3 comes out. I'm hyped.

Is the use of an old nail of a truck to save money against using a shiny new car? :bolt:

Actually it probably was to save money :) They probably have a truck like that planned for the actual game and are using the model for testing. Makes sense when you figure how many objects they're going to have to create from scratch to use this graphics engine. If everything in the game world will use the new physics model, then every object will need to be realistically created part by part, so when they get shot/burned/smashed/dropped/whatever they come apart in a realistic fashion. That's going to take some time.

mech warrior online is supposedly using the game engine...several other games due out this year as well.

I think they already made all the objects and game world in Mechwarrior, so unless they re-do everything to use this new update to CryEngine 3 (released in 2009 btw), I doubt Mech is going to have the same physics that are being shown in this video. Updated physics, yes, but like this? No, not without major delays.
Crysis 3 is still in development so I think it will be the first game that fully uses this physics engine (even the car in the video is based on the SUV seen in other Crysis games).

I would love to see a game based on these physics dealing with the old Steve Jackson 'Car Wars' theme.
ie:
You take a truck like that, stuff a quad 50 in back, armor plate it a bit, beef the motor an suspension,
..or mebbe a 105 recoilless rifle .. and do arena, city, open highway encounters against others.
Credits earned allow you to upgrade, newer badder vehicles (like a halftrack, semi-truck-trailer combo, armored car, etc)
Just a good old fashioned demolition derby even :)

Those physics aren't new. :)
Rigs of Rods has been around for several years now (The team behind the video in this thread). Just that Rigs of Rods is buggy, doesn't look great, harsh on a PC, and you can only do things like drive vehicles and mess with the physics.

They did a while ago, one of my favorite games as a kid.

Snazzy. Now will the human race please get off their duffs and start implementing the infrastructure necessary so that we can have internet speeds fast enough to have that kind of DM in AH? Pretty please?
