Now I am kind of new to the BBS etc. so I am not sure whether this has been asked for and is a horrible idea, so don't flame at me please :uhoh lol
I had an idea earlier of a Battlefield 3 type of map selection, where at the end of a map, or once someone wins a map, something pops up in the chat buffer and says "Choose the next map" and it gave you a choice of 4 (therefore the same map cannot be picked over and over) you type .1 .2 .3 or .4 for whichever map you want next...Obviously the map with the most votes is the map you get next...
So...Thoughts, comments, concerns ?
:salute

+1.
Maybe even weight the voting to make it more even to the losers or more favorable to the victors.
-
Any map will do, as long as there's no vertical barns and flying ammo trucks. Jeez' there's even trees at the end of a runway on one of them
-
and the map that gets picked is probably the easiest to get rolled.

Luke warm to this idea.
Part of me likes the option for players to choose (especially the part where the winners get a heavier vote) :)
Part of me thinks that we would see the same map played over and over. :frown:
The best solution would be to have more maps. Major kudos to those map makers out there but come on HTC, take a break from adding new aircraft and put some labor hours into map making.
-
I'd prefer if the map still had to be new. There could be a rotation formula that doesn't allow the same 2 or 3 maps to be picked over and over again.
I like most of the maps, a few I love and a few I could about murder someone in front of their own mother if that's what it took to retire them for good.

which would bring us back to rotating every map like we have now.

How about we just vote to can that abomination that was up for almost a week. It (FINALLY) went down last night
(F!@#n' A), and we already went through two more last night (everyone pent up a little?).
I mean seriously, how many more week-long sessions are we gonna have like the last one before it goes away or changes, and we can have more fun (or rather, avoid smashing our heads into the wall)?

I can do you one better since you hate the map I made. I just won't bother submitting the new one Ive been putting so many hundreds of hours into building to give good fights to finicky players.

better yet you could explain what you do not like about it to me in coherent terms that will address your concerns. by doing this it could actually have your opinions addressed in the current map I am updating or even in OZkansas being changed when it is updated.

Good looking maps Fesbot! dont let the haters get to ya bro

it's nothing against you personally. it's just that the current map rotation has been around forever. we havent had a new map in a long time and the frustration is showing. guys are just tired of the same maps.
the "problem" that I see with ozkansas is the 20k mountains down the middle. they force you to either horde one base while the enemy ups and equally size horde to defend. that and the fact that 1/2 the players just either camp at v135 (or whatever is the camping ground in the middle of the map ) or spawn camp to get killed there.
as for submitting the new one, that is your call, we have no saying in that. we are grateful that people do spend a lot of time and submit maps that allow us to play. so dont take this personally but I for one wont kiss your buttt to play in the new one. but if you decide to submit it and it gets into the rotation I do thank you for it.

thats trinity. ozkansas is the island map with tons of carriers and a tank/fighter/town in the center with a bunch of vbases.
and only thing that is holding me back from submitting my new map is finishing the soul crushing texture patterns that take forever to make look good. :)

Always gotta keep those buff pilots in mind! :D

only map I don't like is the one with huge mountains you must fly over to get to the nme.....other then that any map is fine they all look the same from the air.
although that newer one...grinder I think its called is very nice looking....
fester Kudos for putting time into making them.

Wow does that map look interesting! :O
It's totally different in every way, especially with the base layout...and the very interesting location of the HQ's. So interesting it almost makes me wonder about how the strat system works with that map.

Fester, first I want to humbley apologise if you took my remarks as being personaly directed to your efforts, creativity, or dedication to every aspect of the map making process (if the map I'm objecting with is indeed one of yours, but that I honestly don't know). The frustration for me that originates from some of these maps (and they might be yours or someone elses) and their repetitiveness is not due to any GENEROUS map creator's lack or failure... at least not that is justifyable. It's as much my fault (a participant) as it is yours (the maker of our playground), it just comes naturaly that blame is placed on others before one's self.
So take what I say not personaly, although with all the effort you invested into it (and each one) that's probabley rediculous for me to say. Interpret it for what it is, an unhappy player after nights of unhappy/unproductive, repetitive play. And then it will happen again, for another 6 or 7 nights straight, and I'll return here even more frustrated than I was after the last 6-7day repetitively unproductive session.
Second, I apologise again, as the more-informative responce you were hoping from me was broken up over two different threads on this same subject. The "abomination" is not you or your creation, but what takes place and transpires on it, usually in the same 2-3 sectors on the same 2-fronts, for ~6 consecutive nights.
"Vote" = player/participant control capability over the maps, not absolute to one or any group of individuals, but still able to change a stagnant map (one where progress has stopped and all action is repetitive (IE: we take A1. they take A1, we take A1, they ake A1, etc.)).
"that was up almost a week", "It finally went down last night", "we already went through two more last night" - many will say what they will about what transpired (or didn't) after a week on a single map, and then after it goes down two are quickly played through in less hours than days just passed without any progress..... I won't say anything more because it isn't as much "your" fault fester as it is every one who was participating... the difference though was black and white.
"seriously, how many more week-long sessions are we gonna have like the last one before it goes away or changes" - not your map, the 6-7days of repetitive gameplay.

clear the rotation cache once the cycle is complete to allow for the next voted map to be chosen

the losing side should pick the next map
you mean the knights will pick the map

keep the rotation, have small/medium maps during the week and medium/large maps at the weekend.
and remove Trinity from the rotation. then destroy the terrain file. then find the source code and destroy that. then take the PCs it was created on to somewhere deep in the woods and make sure they never produce another LOC ever again.

Trinity I think is savable, and is a good map looking beyond one single (questionabley) flawed feature/snag (and craw in player's shorts afer becoming repetitive). As others have commented once the 20k mountains in the middle get broken past, the map can and does change rapidly as progression can be more easily made. OK, so maybe there is a second flaw to it, but it hasn't been forever - Trinity's TT is often neglected and ignored... prime realestate that is, right in the middle.
OzKansas.... if I had to gripe about one single thing about it, is it's TT. Seems base capture people flock to it because it has bases less than 2-sectors apart and because they're all capturable. If you kick one ountry off of it completely, that country invests maximum effort (aka: no fully-backed effort elsewhere on the massive map) to retake a foothold on TT island.
It is not a true TT imho, it is more "the only sane and practical acre of real estate on the entire map worth the average player's effort". It is EXTREMELY non-casual in any way shape or form, TT on ozkansas is "serious buisness" to most the players... and that would be fine, except to most players, nothing else on ozkansas is "serious".
I always thought if any map would benefit from deisgnating some uncapturable bases on its TT, is ozkansas... maybe it might radicly change how that map is utilised too, base takers will concentrate elsewhere first, rather than anywhere but.
Fester, what are your thoughts with taking a belt sander to the first mountain ranges on Trinity to be about 5-10k less in average, or making the airfields on TT in OzKansas uncapturable?
-
OzKansas Trinity, and the smaller TT map are my 3 favorite maps in the whole game...dunno what you guys are on about lol

trinity isnt as bad as people think it is. unless you are a horder :noid

:headscratch:
I don't understand. To me Trinity is the most congested map in rotation. It typically has 2 front line bases for each country, and offers a carrier attack every few hours.
-
its something that we all want. however its to easy to put in the game.

Why are they your favorite, RedBull?
-
Plain and Simple.
Ozkansas always has Epic TT fights, as well as the smaller TT map...along with great GV fights! and Trinity has 135, 20 v 20 GV fights of pure epicness (when it's not totally camped) also trinity still has a lot of great choke points making for great furballs! :aok

when you have the same maps and you vote on the next one and it cannot repeat then it's the same as if all the maps were on rotation. but with the only exception is that the bishops would roll one map and pick the next easy map to roll it again in a couple of hours. so basically they would get another win.

you missed my point. if this idea was put into place there are only two things to make it fair. a full vote of all 3 countries and that once rotation is complete for all maps the cache is cleared as to allow a vote for all the maps again as to never repeat the same map until all maps are through the cycle. aka you can choose the maps until the last is there then that is autoplayed and the cycle repeats. its not the same as the cycle now is continuous and repetitive. each map is rotated in and out until the cycle is completed. if a voting system as i said was implemented this cycle becomes dynamic as the players choose the rotation until the cycle is complete

the point is that there's no point. either way we get to play the same maps, just in a different rotation. so what exactly is the point of coding a vote. only advantage would be if the winner gets to pick as they will chose the next easiest map to roll.
bar surprise you havent figure out that one yet.

did you not read my statement? the winner gets nothing but a part in the vote like all the others. that stops any possibility of cheesy (we get to roll another BS). You think there's only one way to do a vote and its incorrect. second semp, youd be surprised who would vote for which maps and i for one hate the current rotation and would actively vote for two certain maps that some wouldnt favor (maybe others would?). fourth either way i dont care because ill still be playing as i put my 2cents in on this to discuss the idea.
5th there is a point. surprised you havent figured it out yet ;)

semp is right - what you suggest will still be a rotation of the same maps, except the most popular ones will be at the beginning and the most unpopular at the end of the rotation, rather than them being in random order. if anything this would be worse.

then tada you'll know by popular vote which to replace (instead of just believing they are the worst) by.... hmm.... maps people make?

Well, for the same reason you like OzKansas, I dislike it - however I am also fond of the mega-fight effort over TT.... see, what I see is a massive map (20x20 sectors?), with barely 2-square sectors of "good" and over 198 of... well "can be utilised better". Nobody cares about the 198 sectors... well, they do "care", but they "care" about the single one in the middle 20-times more.
Same arguement can be made for Trinity, the horde battles get prety epic there and can be a blast, however no progress on the map can not be made when you have one enemy horde to work against, and a firendly horde not very interested in working with you.
If you think about it, what you like the most can and very likely will still continue to happen in this game, even if these two maps are changed or removed. But if you don't think so, please elaborate.
