Title: Killshooter

When killshooter is off, does that mean you don't take damage for your own shots hitting friendlies?
Or you do take the appropriate damage?

Correct.  With killshooter set to "off,"  your shots will inflict damage on whomever they hit, friendly or enemy.

Yep. It's quite appropriately named.  

Kill...shooter

Kills (damages) the shooter when on.
Kills (damages) everyone else when off.
