Probably there's a simple explanation that I just missed, but why aren't there any medium sized maps in AH? During off hours, a large (20x20) map with less than hundred (sometimes even less than fifty) players is awfully deserted, action is very hard to find. During peak time with 400 or more players on, a small (10x10) map is often terribly crowded. Both variants aren't exactly pleasing from a gameplay point of view.
Couldn't medium (15x15) maps be a happy compromise? Or is there a practical reason we don't have any? :headscratch:

I think its 256 miles for a small, 512 for a large. I think it was fester that pointed out that the whole map doesn't have to be used. Instead of covering a whole 512 map with hundreds of bases, you could put 90 bases near the center of the map leaving the outer edges free of fields. This way you still have more room than a small map, but don't have it so spread out as a large map.

Maybe it's binary? Legal sizes are 64, 128, 256, and 512.
Anyway, it isn't necessary to fill a 512 terrain with bases, as far as I know, a builder could stop with the inner 384x384 mile center and ignore the outer sectors to accomplish your wish. Isn't there a terrain or two that does just that?

Hm...we have a small (10x10) map that does that for an even smaller combat area :uhoh
Thanks for the answers!

ozkansas was designed as a medium map in that it used less than the 512 mile area. my old festerma that I am updating is also what I would consider a medium map.
