Today is the Proudest moment a single Dad can have right now he's at MEPS in Portland Oregon and tomarrow he will be sworn into the Navy he's passed everything to become a medic tech (coreman), it's been hard at times raising him and always hoping he would turn into a fine young man..... well in my eyes he's done it and I'm so proud of him, the only downfall is that he's my only living family i have and i will deeply miss him and get teary eyed thinking of him being gone but he's doing something for this country of ours and it makes me beam with pride :salute

As a corpsman that boy can do no wrong in the eyes of any devildog. They will take a round before they let anything happen to him. :aok :salute to the next devildoc.

well he's home ships out 12-12-12 to Great Lakes, Ill. for boot camp then to texas for his corpsman training, he went through some jrotc in highschool so his grade will be E3 when he ships out, i'm excited for him and proud of him.

Right on! +20
I live near Clarksville, TN home of Fort Campbell. I have several friends who started as your son (admitted in the Army) then went into advanced medicine. After some serious schooling they end up being a Physicians Assistant (PA), one step below a doctor making well over $100k/yr on the civilian side. Your son has a very bright future. He is on a great path.

Congratulations for your and your son.
As a corpsman(medic) ..when he gets out he can step right into any VA hospital that has an opening
..some will make a spot for him even.
They are golden.
If he decides to pursue that career he has a leg up on most ..Licensed Practical Nurse, RN, Certified Nurse Aneasthologist
..even Doctor are very much achievable goals.
Met a few here an there while I was workin as an LPN
..they all said it was a short step to become an LPN when they got out of the service,
.. every one I met was workin on their RN college courses and planning to go up the chain from there.

One of the nurses at the hospital On Eglin AFB was an ex PJ. Whenever I had to give blood I asked for him because well he never did miss... I guess doing it at night in a helicopter is good practice. ;)
Best of luck to your son.

Congrats to you and your son UrSelf!

I work a part time detail at a major airport and run across a lot of youngsters oTW to Basic Training and Im consistantly impressed with the young people selected for military service. Maybe cause Im always around Mommas boys punk gangstas, but even if I wasnt I'd still be proud of the character of these young people that are beginning the greatest journey of their life.
My son is going to follow his old mans footsteps into USAF. I'll be proud too. Congrats on your son.

All of my uncles on both sides of the Family, as well as my dad, served(about 7 men)1 Korea, 5 post Korea, 1 purple heart Viet-Nam. My generation, including cousins, only 3, one bad conduct discharge, one retired USAF CMSgt Avionics troop, me 8 years as a rigger & corrections officer, out of 30 something cousins. We have lost the tradition. I have 4 sons, all eagle scouts, all have good jobs, One Policeman, One Psych-Tech Supervisor, One Albertson's Manager, One Construction, but they all grew up hearing anti military propaganda & they refused to go in....I'm not sure how I fell about it...We lost a tradition, but it's their lives. :salute

I can only dream that my two sons would make me as proud. A Corpsman has to be up there as one of the best.
You are lucky.
Yet I cannot imagine how it would be to worry about them if they were to go to a war zone.

His deployment to boot camp is 12-12-12 so these next 5 months I'm going to spend as much time with him as i can, as far as if he ever gets deployed into a combat situation i know there Will be group of devildogs around him that will keep my son safe to there best abilities but still I'm going to worry about him.

Hehe, "Doc" is the most important person on any mission. Gotta keep him safe at ALL costs. :P :salute

Congrats and well done. That is definitely among the most honorable jobs I can think of in the military. I wish you both good luck! :salute
anti military propaganda
Sorry, but I have to ask...What the hell is that supposed to mean? If you ask me, any "propaganda" is solely in favor of this country and it's war machine. It is by looking at the facts that one might decide that the military, while being a great head-start in life, may not be the best decision in the long run.
