Do you remember your 1st Aces High flight ?
I am not takling about the 1st ones where you end up breaking your left/right wing 150 yards down th Tarmac<g>, No I'm talking about the one when you managed to take off, get your gear up and face your 1st Foe...
I remembr taking off in a SpitIX (Spits were "THE" dweebplane back then). I had not yet setup my views correctly and my convergence was probably set to 650yds or so (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) (ey, AH is my 1st Online sim). So, I takeoff with my Falcon4 Squaddie/Buddy "Groundhog". We're both flying next to each other at 5K gently climbing towards the sun & discovering the wonderfull terrain from somewhere above our usual crashontakeoff views...
To our surprise, we saw a Low P51 comming right at us, and both of us started screaming orders to each other on Teamsound (or whatever comms we used back then), start a gentle dive pointing straight at the low P51 (this was back in AH ver 0.45 or something... ). Both of us started shooting towards the low P51 at about 2000 yards, missed all our shots, spinned, stalled and promptly got shot (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
That P51 was "Wizzer" ... I'm still waiting for payback time d00de (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
Do you remember your 1st fight ?

I can't remember my first AH flight.
J_A_B
-
I raced down the runway, ground looped, and smashed into a hangar... I never got off the ground, so I'm not sure if it could be considered a 'flight'... hehe
-
hell I can't even remember my last flight!
Oh yeah! I DO remember it.
Last night we had a base that was under heavy attack so I went up in a tempest and headed right for the red wave. I blew past it knowing a lot of the attackers would peel off looking for some perk points. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I pulled several away but only 1 was hot on my tail. A La-7 was getting closer and closer so I pulled up and rolled while in a black out and when I could see again he was crossing right into my path. (yummy...doh I missed) I started doing some split-S with him and was getting ready to fire again when I noticed the P-51 coming in and knew it was over.
<S> SKViper and who ever was with you.
Was fun while it lasted.
Yes Yes I know this isn't a story of my first flight but it's the best I can do. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I remember the first day of open beta. hehe...poor MarkAT typing like a madman helping folks drop fuel tanks, use the radio and on and on. It was pretty exciting to see the flight controls REALLY move too.
-
Heh, I remember when I came back from my Austratia trip (was gone a year) and finally got access to a computer. I'd been a trainer in WB, and been around a bit. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I downloaded the latest WB... and it was the same as when I left. Then I went and downloaded AH and tried it.
Wow... movable flight controls! Look at the terrain! Wow, mountains! Canyon fights! I fired the guns and spooged at the awsome tracers. I played with fuel tanks and fuel loads. Woah. 3D cockpits that are excellent, moveable head positions. It had everything.
Heh, I remember when I registered for beta and got HT's email with my password. I still have that email too. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I did a big "woohoo" and my wife wondered what I was smoking as I sat glued to the computer with a big stupid grin on my face. I got online, grabbed a Hog and commenced the fun. I really don't remember if I got a kill my first flight or not... I was too busy marvelling at the awesome game world. That's what I remember. Oh yea, I remember my first time on here....grabbed a P51 and raced down the runway with 100% gas and wondering "Why isnt this thing blasting off?". Stall horn blaring, got her to 2000 feet, level and waited for the speed to build. Never saw much, then someone dove in on my 6. I banked, stalled and before I could recover, I was hit. Kind of a frustrating ride but a few guys who saw me die suggested the Spit 9 and mentioned a few guys in the training room could really help me out. Rode the Spit9 for a few weeks, spent some time with the guys in the training room and a year later, Im still hooked to this game (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Yes! I took off in a P51. I thought it was the only plane available. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Took Off and climbed with little trouble. Seen a few green icon around. Flew over the canyons. Approached a red B-17 but someone got it before I got there. At that time B-17s had no guns!! HeHe!
Crossed over to bad guy territory and went toward a red icon. Was another p-51. We HOed each other and fired. Neither one of us hit and I just kept on flying straight! So did the other guy.
Seen an airfield went down to check it out. There was a bad guy there too. Flew over the field and got killed by ack.
I flew 3 missions before I realized how to change planes! I always took off from the fields that were high elevation. It was so cool because it was my first on-line flight sim. I remember fighting 'mossback' alot and winging with 'crisis'. I remember early on was 'porn' and 'pnus'.
Those were the days!! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

sure. I took a F4U1-d, started the engine, firewalled the throttle and, of course, I ground looped.
Bit surprised (I was rock'n rolling in falcon4 H2H mode those days, and thot I was invincible (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)), I tried it again, with similar or even worse results (yes, first time I groundlooped and somehow died on the runway. Second I died OUT of the runway (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)).
now I tried the 190 ("well, the f4u, the ensign eliminator...maybe it is the plane"...)
I ground looped, and exited the game ("WTF is this, it sux!!!").
Three days after that a friend convinced me to give it a try, and to try taking off usign the rudder keys (2-button yoke and no rudder pedals by that time) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif). Finally took off. I was immediatly vulched (lol). But I got caught and took off again.
tHen it was a typical learning stage...someone helps you, someone vulches you, you get your first kill (at a target 1.1K away with a spitfire....lol), you go private to ask Torque how in the hell was he getting his 7th kill, nd then you got the answer when he got the 8th...
I got hooked. And from then until now (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I remember a Mediterranean League scenario flight I was in. Was in Maik's flight of 109G-2s, patroling the N African coast.
As it was a long, uneventful patrol, Maik would occasionally issue orders in German, or entertain us with a Luftwaffe song. Looking out over my formationmates, hearing the German over RW, it just doesn't get any more real than this I thought to myself.
I was right - minutes later we encountered B-26s escorted by Spits, and in the giant furball the developed my FR plunged to a single-digit slide show. I was hit and killed trying to bail.
Still, for those priceless moments of really feeling like part of a Luftwaffe flight, it was worth it.
Next I need to hook up with some RAF chaps!
Cheerio! Right! Carry-on!

I had gotten tired of aw, although I'd been playing it for about 6 years. read a review and talked with vati about aces high.
I downloaded AH, installed and took my first trip on-line. I chose the a-5 since I'd been known to always fly the FW.
When I saw the graphics, in the tower, then went to the hangar, noticed the various loadouts etc. I was hooked.
I pointed the fw down the runway, noticed I better use the rudders to keep the butcher bird on the runway, I was hooked even further. First time I got the bird up, patted myself on the back, and said "this ain't so tough"
I immediately went looking for my first victim, little did I know it would be me!
I saw a low 109 on the deck, about 300 feet, and being about 10K I rolled into a dive on the 109s six. Lined him up in the sights, leading a little forward, proceded to start firing at 600 feet, blew his tail off, and I promptly aurgered into the ground behind the 109<G> first day at AH I signed up, didn't need a two week trial period, I was hooked!

I had been watching the Aces High bulletin boards, as was all other warbirds players. Open Beta was getting near, then one day in (September or was it October?) 1999, the Aces High beta had been released. Cool! I rushed home from work that day, downloaded it, I think it was like 3 megabytes (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif). Like a smart simmer, I skipped pesky stuff like a readme, or flying offline. I went straight online. I think I got in the air on the first attempt. The torque was waaaay more unforgiving than warbirds. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I grabbed some altitude, and flew over to a mountain range. I noticed kills in the buffer, back then it read like..
SYSTEM: scop killed hblair
... instead of the way it is now. I looked down in the canyons and decided to dive down there and see what was going on, at that time, flaps worked no matter what speed you were flying. If you were compressing at 500+ mph, just drop the flaps! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) I think I was killed by scop not long after dropping into the canyon, and so concluded my first flight in Aces High.
-
I remember that my first dozen or so flights in the beta had to be launched from the hilltop fields.
All I could do was slowly eeck up the throttle and keep it straight enough to dive it off the cliff and viola I'd be airborne.
A side note:
I had been considering myself a relative newbie to AH. I flew in the first beta tour, then just recently came back. I looked at the pilot stats for the different tours and realized I have been in here regularly since tour 5. How the hell am I going to rationalize my lack of skills and prowess to myself now? crap.

I remember my first Goon flight , The guy running the Mission (back then a knight and well know for his missions) chewed me out for 5 minutes for not landing close enough to the maproom . I was new and had no idea what I was doing . I try to help new guys now , mostly because I still remember that bellybutton chewing (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

i remember seeing films of wwii where the bombers just fly over dropping bombs to carpet the area and not very strategically.
i took up a b17 or something and flew over a field at about 5k and dropped everything at random - yehoo i did it!
we were capturing the field and everything was down in reality i just scared the hell out of the c47 crew that was landing there and the people capping it!
i think it was escafe or central that started harassing me. i was pretty embarrased. not my first flight but the first one i remember. its been down hill from there as far as skill goes (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

LOL!!
My first B-17 flight was the same thing! I was proud I had stayed up all night to get to 23k and found an airbase we were trying to take. Thinking I was being smart, I dropped bombs up and down the runway (this is back in the old days when a crater killed ya (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) ) Guys on the ground were like "Hey, nice job, but how about hitting a hangar or two for us?" Yikes!
Wish the runway cratering was cured...if I am not mistaken, now planes/gvs can roll right thru em. Used to be nice to slow em down with a 4000 pounder to the middle of the runway (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I remember "cutting cookies" in the p51 at field 9 on the original beta map. I think this was .34 or .35. I soon found out if you throttled up REAL slow you could get to the edge of the field and if you were real lucky, get airborne.
I don't remember who was the first person I shot down, but I do remember the first person to shoot ME down. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif) It was Bytor, and he gave me a for "great evasives." LOL, getting a p51 to stall and then spin is not what I'd call a "great evasive" anymore. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
I do remember my first multikill sortie. It was on the 2nd day I played, which would have been in early October of '99, still beta 1. I was in a spit 9 and I managed to find 3 planes taking off from an enemy field we were capping. I dove in and killed them all right as I slammed the spit into their runway. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Later that day Wolf37 asked me to join his new squad. I was a Thunderbird up until last month when Wolf decided to take a break and disbanded the squad. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)
AH sure has come a long way since .35, that's for sure! It seems like bombers had no guns or bombsights when I first started. The terrain also was completely flat, except in the canyons and elevated fields. It was still a blast though. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

YUP, i remember it well as do the 33rd. I was gunning in a b17 and we were on RW. I think half the squad lost their speakers that night, the other half still refuses to RW with me (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
I had a blast I love doing squad stuff, and welcoming people into "my world"
But lately i been lone wolfing looking for a squad full of a happy bunch of flyers who can laugh and enjoy the comrodery and be able to laught at themselves.
Any takers for a 43 year old with tobacco stained teeth and budding grey earhairs?

Sound ideal for the 332nd, especially if you are into having a good time, lots of laughter and generally flying with some pretty fantastic people (like moi!) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

I rember him singing out on RW, "Viper, what the hell are you driving?"

My first flight:
I was in a P51 and being guided by a very kind and helpful gent. I will get to his name in a minute.
It was just 2 months after the Beta opened.
I was trying to take off and I smacked the edge of the BH as I torque stalled into it.
He asked me to join him on RW and offered to talk me through the launch.
We flew for well over an hour; climbing to 25K and avoiding any chance of being shot while he showed me the commands, quirks and basic difference I could expect (I was an Air Warrior 3 Flyer).
Then he covered my bellybutton as I made my first kill on a Spit and landed it back at home safe.
I guess he won't be able to do that again.
Thanks TOWD!

Hi All,
I don't remember my 1st flight exactly but I do remember my 1st goon flight. It was in the old beta terrain and someone (Name escapes me) and myself decided to do a double team with goons on a rook field which was being a "Real B" to capture. I remember there were loads of cons and we decided split up (He went through the canyons I went over the top). Anyway he got shot down and it was all down to me. "Goon otw?" shouted about 15 knights on country channel "Don't worry snafu is IB" shouted the other (Now Dead) goony. "Goon needed NOW" came another shout. "My moment of glory" I thought as I ID'd the field as I came over the mountains. I pushed the stick forward and began to accelerate, and accelerate, and accel... Well you know the rest. The stick was now pushed all the way forward and I was beginning to level off (I did not know about trim at this point). By the time I reached the field I was doing about 350mph and still at 8K I released the drunks who were promptly picked off one by one as they floated down. I apologised to each knight individually then I logged off.

I had sent pyro an email in july asking to get in the alpha. At the time I was a WB trainer. Well in mid August I resigned from the trainers and quit WB for good (thnx HS). About 5 min after I sent out the email I got one from pyro hehhehe asking me to join in on the AH alpha (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) It was version .26 I think, and I took a p51 up and started my first AH hunt. Boy was it new (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Got a kill though (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) Been hooked on HT products for 6 years now hehe.

Yup...took a P38 up, was grabbing when I thought I saw something low near the hills, I leveled out and followed. I stayed above the canyons until I saw him again, an F4U. Later I figured out he was trying to land at a Vehicle base, once I realized one could do this. I dove and opened up at 400...my first kill...then I saw this funny looking area ahead that looked like buildings or something down in this same canyon, being new I wandered over to take a peek. The ack was up and greeted me warmly, thus I learned what a vehicle field looked like. Took me only seconds to re-up and come back with eggs....

Back in October of 99, I was playing Rogue Spear on some guy named Soulyss' server a lot. I ICQ'ed him one day asking him if he was gonna host and he said no. He was too busy trying this new flight sim online called Aces High. I downloaded it, registered, and logged in. I was thinking that this would be fairly easy to fly as I had been flying sims since my family got its first comp in 1983. Boy, was I wrong.
I don't remember my first flight per se, but I do remember the first night I was on. I was ground looping, getting bounced as I took off, stalling when I tried to turn, and a whole list of other things. I think I got a kill. All I really remember was yelling at Souly on channel 1 asking for help and everything.
Those were some fun days. Beta days were fun as all hell.
