Title: Finding cars online
Post by: Motherland on June 08, 2012, 11:38:01 PM
What are good sites to look for classifieds for cars? I've been searching craigslist religiously for the past few weeks for BMW E30s but ones in good running condition for a reasonable sum tend to either be rare or gone within days. I'm trying to make my search as wide as possible but the only sites I can think of are craigslist and ebay.

A few years ago, I was looking for a Fiat Spyder like I had driven while in college...  I started by simply google searching Fiat for sale...  That pulled up a few...  When I clicked the same search over to Images, i found some pictures of several cars that were of interest.

One of the images took me to a car dealership in Michigan that specializes in used high end Italian Sports cars...  It just so happened that they had an 83 Fiat sitting in a corner of their lot, ignored...  Cheapest thing they had for sale by a wide wide margin.

I called them up and asked for some photos.  Salesman e-mailed me about 2 dozen photos from various angles.  I asked him to focus in on some things I wanted to see better.  He did.  I liked what I saw.  Made an offer.  They countered.  I agreed to their counter if they would deliver (about a 9 hour drive).  They agreed.  Money was transferred.  About a week later, the salesman showed up in front of my house with my car on a trailer.

It was exactly what they advertised and showed in all of the photos.  No regrets from me after a couple of years of Fiat convertible summer driving fun!

Check BMW Forums too.
Lots of stuff on line, check Carsense.com, Cars.com, autolenders.com, as
well as ones mentioned above.
Here's one in NJ for sale.

I use a couple sites depending on what I am lookin for.

'Normal' cars I look at autotrader.com

'squeakin' cars I look at:

http://www.cars-on-line.com/

Vettes I look at:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/

Craigslist is a crapshoot .. but I do look now and then just on the off chance there may be somethin worth lookin at if I am in the market.

..and of course, Google search the car by make and model is pretty much where I began.

I've owned three of them now.  A 72, 74, and now an 83.  Tons of fun to drive!  This one isn't nearly as fast as the earlier ones were.  I need to re-do the interior, maybe this winter.

Man, that's... awesome. To be honest I've never even seen a FIAT in the states until recently with some new hot hatches.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys.
