Title: Airframe intros
Post by: Rich52 on June 10, 2012, 06:39:52 PM
Which airframe/ and modification introductions, thru the years, do you think have been the most exciting? Of course GVs also count. And do you think the coming 410/87G one will stand out among the best?

Not in the long run.  It will have it's initial time of everyone trying them, but then it will drift to only those who really want to take the time in them.

I know I'm biased, but I think the intro of the 38G and J was a good one that has stood the test of time.

I agree and one of the first planes to show what the then AH2 graphics were capable of over the old AH 1 graphics.

No one has attempted to actually answer his question.

I would say perhaps the Ki-84.  Look how many now use it as their main AC plane of choice.

Also, the Spit 8\16 update was a big change too.

Ki-84 is the jack of all trade for fighters, carries a decent gun package, good climb rate - turn radius in high/slow speed - it can hold its own in most situations, although it does not stand out specifically in any way.

Panther G is the same for ground vehicles, although perked it holds it own in most situations unless a Tiger/Tiger 2 rolls out.

I think the introduction of bomber formations changed the MA gameplay a LOT...

I remember having over 10 kills in a single B17 run back in the day, now 3 or 4 is a lot (for me anyway), and that is with 3 planes firing!

Im kinda surprised nobody mentioned the T-34/85, "at least among the grownups who answered". I cant remember. Did that one include anything else? Also the Brewster is a fave of mine even tho I dont fly it much nowdays. Still in LWA its a fun defender against CV groups or as a on the deck rat.

34/85 was a nice addition to the M4(76) although at the time the M4 completely dominated having that tiger 2 armor it had.

I've always been fond of the P-39 additions and thought they were one of the best since I've been around. The Ki-84 addition was a winner too in my book.

around v1.03 or v1.04 when the E loss code was corrected, allowing turn and burn fighters to actually dodge more than once.

I ended up liking the town layout mod.  The sense I am killing hundreds of Bish women and children of military value in a single pass is that much more tangible...

Umm, high speed turn radius in the KI is grunt unless you have mastered defeating compression.

I think the B29 was the most exciting.  After so many years of daily wishlist threads, to have it enter service and not decimate the game as it had been feared.

And I still love to fly it.

If you learn to ride it on the edge it does wonders, but if you screw up you tear off the aielrons

It is easy.

Step 1) Turn off combat trim.

Done.

Also, don't mistake heavy control forces for compression.  :p

Currently, it's the King Tiger and a tie between the new A6M and the new P-40 imho, which are not surprisingly some of the newest models.  The B-29 is also very well done, except it's so big that to look closely at its minute detailing is like staring a gifted horse in the mouth.... you go start thinking B-29 - you're goin' big or goin' home.

Yeah remember the doomsayers? :lol And everyone of their posts had to have "nuke" thrown in for drama effect.

I'm going with the panzer F.

...And more so when the new stuka rolls out

Shallow dive angles vs side armor anyone? :t

Not all of us.  I didn't vote for it, but it has had pretty much the effect I thought it would and said it would.
