It would be nice to have a T6 Texan to use as a training device for learning simple and complex combat manouvers with the assistance of an instructor/ squaddie. Possibly implement a way for the student to up in the front student cockpit and have the instructor join him in the rear. with the use of dual controls, where the instructor's contro inputs would override the student's inputs and show said inputs in the movement of both simulated control sticks together. maybe add a light in the student cockpit that states: YOU HAVE THE CONTROLS and a button in the instructor's "cockpit" that turns it on and off when a student doesn't currently have mic abilities yet.

There were tons of these aircraft used to teach the allied forces how to fly and fight, why not use the actual teaching device to teach in AH?
Instead of an instructor following you around in a separate aircraft and telling the student what to do and trying to criteque, the instructor could SHOW the student what to do and he can try to copy the stick imputs visually in the cockpit and through to movement of the aircraft. Dual cockpits would also allow for the instantaneous correction of mistakes by an instructor mid-manouver rather than after completion by trying to describe the student's mistake(s).  :salute

Perhaps even better than modeling the Texan, what about some kind of '.joinastrainer' command that would do what is described above, but with any vehicle in the game?  It would be neat if it brought up a display at the bottom that showed all the control inputs as bars or something along those lines.  It could be used to show the student exactly what it takes to do that snaproll or tailslide or split-S and suchlike.

I think it would be a grand training tool.  +1.

it would have to be the trainee joining the trainer and being able to see what the trainer sees/does in real time.

dual control would require coding i personally would not want in any manner because of the exploitability.

There are more important things to add.  The D3A1 works fine as a basic trainer.

Would it not more or less match up though, being that the plane's attitude changes would also be the same amount of time behind when the trainer actually did it?  Smoothing code might make it a bit different, but it would seem to me to match up pretty close.  I guess the question would be, "Would it be close enough?"

Meh.  Are you thinking in terms of a hacked client giving input controls (or lack thereof) to another client?  I can see a pretty simple way of avoiding that.  Just have it so the client must be set to allow it, and only in the TA.

Sure there are.  If it were me, I think the far more versatile option would be to give that capability in all aircraft for training purposes, no modeling required.

I just like this idea because it isn't a request for:

- a prototype plane that never saw combat (heh, technically I guess it is, but not in the usual manner of such requests)
- the baka bomb
- flying boats/submarines
- kamikaze aircraft
- an RPS

It's an idea I can't recall having seen in the Wishlist, and I think it has some merit.  Coding it would be large, and I wouldn't want it to be prioritized over other things, but I think it'd be worthwhile.

Meh.  Are you thinking in terms of a hacked client giving input controls (or lack thereof) to another client?  I can see a pretty simple way of avoiding that.  Just have it so the client must be set to allow it, and only in the TA.

The trainer part of it is a nice idea.  I just don't see the need for the T6 Texan part of it.

The only reason i suggested it to be implemented in a t6 texan was because it was one of the most used trainer aircraft of the second world war (for the allies). Unless a modified p51 is added as the tf51, that would be cool too

In reality you need two seats, so that makes sense, but in the game the trainer and trainee can sit in the same exact seat so any fighter or bomber works.

The F2b makes a nice stand in for the Tiger Moth primary trainer.

Dual controls are likely not worth the programming that would be required. We worry less about students crashing and breaking aircraft online since there is no real penalty. You don't learn to fly online by looking at the stick and pedal positions and you can't feel the instructor control inputs so everything you need to learn you can do without dual controls.
All you need to do is practice flying with an understanding of what you are trying to accomplish. You can gain that understanding from written and verbal instruction along with watching Aces High films.

+One-Hundred.  Excellent idea would be a couple trainer tools like this idea, especialy for use specificly online, expand their capabilities beyond simpley talking or typeing to a player (although auto-takeoff and "follow-me" has worked for years).  T-6 is also cool beans, but maybe as a con or special plane just like the rest, half-modeled but equiped with RATOs, Rockets, and a 20mm gattling gun in the observer's seat.
