Hello, have encountered a problem on my newer computer, purchased 07/2008, in that I was attempting to use "System Restore" to a date of 05/22/12, upon completion I attempted to restore it to a more recent date, at which point my screen went dead, totally black in color.
My sys info: ASUS BIOS version 1207
Processor: Type: INTEL (R) CORE (TM) 2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHZ COUNT 2
Sys. Memory Avail: 4096 MB
Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit SP2
I restarted my PC, specified 'Safe Mode' & obtained a Black Screen
Tried again with 'Safe Mode with Networking' & " " " "
Tried agan with "Start computer normally" & " " " "
I'm unable to even get to the welcome screen, as the screen is blacked out. I replaced batteries in my mouse & keyboard,, everything is clean & well connected opened my CPU tower & cleaned it checking for loose connections
finding nothing wrong.
The PC seems to be loading the info but is unable to get to the opening welcome screen. Any & all advice is invited, appreciated & welcome. Thanks

long shot remove the battery on your mobo. put it back. boot and see what happens.

what color is the power on light on your monitor? yellow (orange? ) or green?
does it go from yellow then switches to green? or does it just stay yellow, when trying to boot up?
do you hear any "BIOS Beep Codes" when you turn the PC, when you are trying to boot it up?
more info regarding your PC would be helpful perhaps too...... Motherboard model #, PSU model # and wattage,
do you hear if the hard drive is spinning up? the CD/DVD drive is spinning up?, any case fans, cpu fan, videocard fan, PSU fan, etc... is spinning up?
any HDD/IDE lights blinking on the front panel or top front of the case during boot up?
do you have a recovery/restore CD Disc from when you first purchased or built this computer? perhaps you maybe made a disc image for backup purposes at some point in the past???
just some important questions and possible ideas/remedies......

sounds like video driver went south when you tried to restore to a newer date. going backward isn't a problem, trying to go forward from a previous restore point can cause problems. wondering why the system restore in the first place.

are sincerely appreciated.
I thought I could restore my system after doing research on my PC problems by
installing my original vista cd & starting my computer, but much to my dismay
my Vista Home Premium CD doesn't have a "Startup Repair" on the disk, there-
by my attempts proved futile!
Guess I'll have to repair my PC or buy a disk w/Startup Repair on it ... darn :mad:
