I was at the Bodø Air Show last weekend and it was great! Being the 100th anniversary of Norwegian military aviation we were graced by some pretty impressive guests this year. like the Frecce Tricolori and Patruille Suisse. Red Bull was here too with their DC-6 and … their stunning, gorgeous, eyewateringly beautiful P-38. More than 20,000 people showed up! Not bad for a small town in northern nowhere.
I shot some pictures with my crappy phone cam… (The pics with overcast weather were on the second day of the air show.)
Red Bull’s P-38L (with F scoops, tsk tsk). This 38 used to be “White Lightnin” owned by Lefty Gardner, God bless his soul. After its nasty accident…

… it was sold to Red Bull’s collection “The Flying Bulls” (www.flyingbulls.com) and restored. It is now the only flying 38 in Europe. Just look at that mirror finish!

In the last one where the Tricolori are flying past the props look wonky because they’re turning.
Here’s a short video I shot of the 38:

Patruille Suisse with their red and white Swiss flag paintjob F-5E’s. Clockwork precision. Very impressive.

Frecce Tricolori in their Aermacchi MB-339’s. Awesome display! Very Italian bravado.

World Grand Prix of Aerobatics champion and all-round great guy Jurgis Kairys was also there in his Su-26 (a plane he helped design). Incredible display… and this guy’s in his ‘60s! (more on Jurgis: http://www.airbandits.net/en/pilot/jurgis_kairys.html)

There were two days worth of air displays and hundreds of static displays. Most European countries were represented in one way or another and the U.S. had few planes (including a C-17) on static display. Even the local AmCar club showed up all polished and dressed up. They skipped the line dancing though ;)

All in all a terrific weekend.

Yeah, Skuzzy found it in his heart to parole me after four years in the penalty box. Have stopped by a few times as a guest just to keep up on current events here. Since pretty much every discussion I got in trouble for is now banned here I guess I'll be ok. ;)
Have you been back long? Any of the old gang still flying?
-
Good to hear!
I don't know about any of the JB's, I haven't flown in years. The last time I flew it was / still is I guess as a Muppet. I golfed with 42 3 days ago, and sill hang out almost weekly. We've been trying to write songs lol. I just built a new PC to have one, and do music recording... I figure it can run AH to probably ;)
-
It's great that you guys are still hanging out. Next time you see 42 give him my regards and a <S!> Btw. is he still around this BBS?
I'm planing to get back into AH in the foreseeable future. Would be great to fly with a few buddies from the old days. :)
