Title: perk idea
Post by: SELECTOR on June 19, 2012, 06:00:03 AM
Hi All
Been playing this great game for many years and have only post slightly negative topics on a few occations.
This isn't ment to be negative but just an idea.
One thing i have always hated about this game is vulching for perk points.
My idea is remove the perk based rewards and just give all players and number of perk points say 1000 at the start of each tour to use over the full range of equipment in any way they see fit..

I don't think people vulch for perks, maybe more to do with just killing a red guy because they can't manage it any other way.  These days it is near impossible to have a good vulching session without ack popping or wirbs everywhere.

Whilst on the same topic I would suggest the perk bonus multiplier to be tied into the ENY system.

Say your on the team with 30-50-45     If you up a high eny ride and kill the low eny rides from the teams with more players you get double the fighter points for making a kill.   Hopefully that would reward players that don't always hop into the low eny rides.

It would be cool if there was a distinction made between planes killed in the air vs planes killed on the ground.

Selector,

While Vulching may seem dishonorable ( as much as it is frustrating when your vulched) it has historical basis and was common tactic. The intent was to destroy enemy aircraft on the ground to prevent them from potentially being a threat and to erode the ability to affect the mission or erode over all combat strength of Threat Air Forces.

I can see getting no perks (or even halving the perk value of that particular aircraft) for Vulching  an Aircraft on approach to land or just beginning it's flight but, as underhanded as it may seem ethically, it has strategic and tactical advantages: The main one being demoralizing the enemy.

It would be cool if there was a distinction made between planes killed in the air vs planes killed on the ground.

I agree here, but the inclination by some players to use another pilot's "kill record" to erode his or her credibility and/or criticize his  or her skill is ever present (and ultimately irrelevant considering the historical basis for Vulching being a legitimate tactic.)  Ground kills were often counted seperately than air kills, and  both counted towards the over all kill tally.

Eric Hartman had 300+ kills some of the MAY have been ground kills...perhaps approximately 92 of those kills

"Of his 352 victories, 260 were achieved against fighters " ("Eric Hartmann-Aces of Aces" by Christopher Bergstrom, N.d.; http://www.elknet.pl/acestory/hartm/hartm1.htm, Accessed 2012)

We may never know but its safe to assume that ground kills were counted legitimately as an over all kill score.

No, the Luftwaffe didn't score ground kills as part of their kill tally.  Hartmann's non-fighter kills were against planes like the IL2 and other Soviet non-fighters.

This is a really interesting idea, and I am sure it would wildly change the scope of how battles are fought and which craft were used/when.

Of course, you'd have to let those cats with more than 1,000 perks keep their overages, right?

Sorry but I have to laugh yet again.

If the radar is down and the base is flashing, what does that tell us.....that there is a bad guy around.

So don't up there, pick a different field. If the base has been deacked and the Alchemist and vGuys are there trying to capture it then even if you do get off the runway your in for a bunch of defensive turns and a tower. Up from the next field, come in with some alt and shoot as many down as you can before they capture it and run to the fresh ack anyways.

I love it how shooting a plane on the runway is just a worthless vulch and sitting at a spawn point clobbering the next guy that spawns is touted as a "GV fight".
