Title: A custom ceiling fan for the garage!
Post by: G0ALY on June 19, 2012, 04:22:13 PM
I bought this old Hartzell propeller last year. It had been used as a training aid in a tech school.

I repainted it, and had a mount fabricated so it could be used as a ceiling fan in the garage. I don’t have the motor yet, but if you know me… you know I will enjoy the search for it.

I’m planning on using a motor from an electric wheelchair. Low RMP, and high torque.

It'll give you a good reason to yell out " CLEAR PROP!" when turning on the ceiling fan

 Very nice Goaly!

they make motors just for that type of fan,not a prop but it powers multi fans from a single location.  They are generally belt driven and used for commercial or industrial applications.

The wheel chair motor should work but isnt it a DC motor?  you'll need a converter or power it with a battery.

I would think any 1/2hp AC motor would do the job and you can use pulleys to get the proper rpm.

Cant wait to see it finished!

The rudder is from a Beech 18. The fabric on the reverse side is painted in early U.S. Army Air Corps colors.
The wingtip below it is from a T-6 Texan. It was actually a gift from the guy who sold me the prop.
