Title: Kuya's Thursday night mission in the MA
Post by: Guppy35 on July 05, 2012, 01:03:29 AM
If folks can make it, it would be appreciated.  Info found in this thread

http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,335746.0.html

We had a good time last week.  More planes would be even better.  Hoping to have some of my 364th FG guys there to escort in the Mustangs.

I Very much regret having made that promise. There were so unbelievable many fighters high over the buffs that I never had a remote chance of getting even near them.

Lesson learned.  :salute

Was fun.  Interesting how it played out too.  TheMaj of the 4th FG and my 364th FG Mustangs were trailing the bombers out and saw the single 190 swinging in.  Stampf really worked it and the fight ended up on the deck.  Both Maj and I shot off a lot of ammo.  I thought I finished off the 190 when I saw his wing break off about halfway.  Both theMaj and I broke off only to see the 190 right itself.  Stampf got it on the ground 10 feet from the runway too!

As I said on 200, I think TheMaj and I will get 1/2 kill each as that 190 won't fly again.  But much to our disappointment, we know we'll see that pilot again, and he's good! :)

Excellent Lusche.  This is going to go on every Thursday night.  It isn't a 262 you need, it's wingmates in a co-ordinated attack.  I'm glad this challenged you, and I know you are good and well practiced at altitude killing buffs.

Make the event better please, lead the way with a luftwaffe attack flight sir <S>.

Those pilots were in stolen planes, stolen uniforms, and had in their possession stolen plans.  They were arrested after they bailed out and shot at sunrise this morning.

Just doing my part, I think we need to keep this 8th AF mission going every week if not twice a week because its a total BLAST, think next week I will have to be a luftwobble pilot though just to give the escorts some.....headaches :)

One of the shortcoming's in the Mission was the map.  It was a small map and hard to get a decent climb out and room to coordinate without getting too close to frontlines.  Hopefully, a bigger map will be present and more room to maneuver.

Thanks Dan.

I was actually on my second hop having lost my first ride to buff wreckage collision.  I knew I would never get back into position, and found my self flying right along with a 47 squadron for some time.  My hope was to drag these guys out of the stream, if and when I could get into position on the trailing buffs.  They seemed quite content to wait for me to do so.  That's when you and your wingman showed, and I could see right away your only thought was collecting my scalp.

Nice flying on the dive.  Was pretty intense avoiding all those 50 cal rounds.  One tends to get pretty adept at defensive rolls after flying the A8 allot. When we got to the deck, all I could do was try to survive.  I was already on fumes and expected my engine to quit...that's when I was relieved of my wing.  The snap roll you saw was intentional...as is the customary way to regain control of the A-8 after losing the torque side wing.  I was relieved to see you two break after that...and made it to the field, but ran dry on petrol on final approach.

<S> Both of you.  Wish I could have provided a better fight.

What's interesting is this goes against all the MA whining.  A big mission, announced early on the bbs.  Time set, objectives set for everyone to see.  Then it's announced on 200 saying where it's going and what alt, along with the planes involved.  And the incoming raid is asking to be intercepted.

Even stranger is it appears those people involved on both sides are enjoying themselves.

What are we doing wrong?    :)

Yet we had some difficulties to convince quite a number of our countrymen that this was no basegrab mission

"ALERT A4! GET THE WIRBELS OUT!"
Despite the constant upates on mission altitude on country channel. Even funnier the fact that each base overflown had indeed Wirbels on the base. Sometimes even shooting at the bombers

"ALERT A11! HUNT the GOONS!"
After about 30 minutes of that battle in progress. Some players apparently always type, but never read  :D

"MAN THEY SUCK! THEY DIDNT ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING!"
Means: No base captured and the HQ was still up. This is probably what they call a "waist of resurses!"  :noid

And the incoming raid is asking to be intercepted.
That, my friend, is what makes it fun for all and the core difference between a mission and a horde. It is, was, and always will be about the engagement with other players. Friend and enemy alike.

I know our squad had a good time escorting in the 47s. I've talked to Trukk about flying the Luft side next week since we normally fly Bish. If we do there will be 1 squad up there grouped up looking for the buffs.

Fugi, you are welcome to fly with the 11th any time you wish.  Bring TB along with you too.  However, JG11 will not be participating as a unit in these missions.  5 PM on a weekday for my west coast players.

I offered a few suggestions to the Allied kommand on how to increase Luftwaffe participation - and was ignored.

So be it...they seem to know of some other imaginary Luftwaffe units in the game...  I am actually starting to think they enjoy no opposition.  Which is fine, cuz come the fall...8th AF won't have a clue about how to deal with the Luftwaffe when faced with the real deal in DGSII.

Cheers man.

To who and what did you suggest Stampf?

In the other thread.

Kuya has been asking for someone to organize a prop driven, 'spirit of the event' coordinated, all Luftwaffe defense.  I suggested that if he would only... hit the knights...and give me 30 more minutes, that I would volunteer my time to do just that.   It's not about switching countries.  Me and my mates switched to rooks last week.  However, I can't lead and organize the above from the bish or rook side.  Other than the guys here on the bbs, I don't know the bish numbers guys or rook astronauts.  I don't even pay attention to their names when I make them go boom.  I do however, know the knights...and can field 40 plus 109's and 190's very easily.  It's that simple.

What do you really think you will get in the MA?   Why should folks take all that time to climb out and intercept you in the planes...you want them to fly?  Strangely enough...I know some guys who long to do just that.

Good luck.  Maybe I'll see you over Bishland Thurs.  I'll prob be alone though and burning kerosene.

Can't knock old Kuya for trying.  We flew from Bish for the first two weeks.  July was going to be Knits and August Rooks.  He was trying to set it up as an equal opportunity have fun.  No one is required to do it, just throwing it out there if folks want to.

Obviously the request for prop driven is based on the actual scenario.  Folks gotta have fun whatever they do, so if a jet makes ya happy, go for it :)

Next month, it will be easier for you to coordinate a defense as the attack will be from Rookland, so don't lose that thought :aok

Weak Dan.  Very Weak.

We are laughing and rolling on the floor with our hounds and potato's in our ready rooms.  According to posted 8th AF plans, knights will not be hit.  Hehe...we love you guys...we really do.  And we are really going to love you in the fall.

You know I prefer wood over turbine...any day.  And so my offer to lead an all prop, all luft defense stands.

See ya up.

Edit:  Potatoes....lol....equals.... loose french women...

Where are you seeing Knits won't be hit?  And when did this get even remotely serious :)

Keep in mind in a couple weekends we're going to be upping from England and hitting targets in France.

Stampf, what Guppy said was true about the equal oppurtunity way of planning the missions.  Last week, I had posted that I would alternate each week between Bishop and Knight.  This will help wrangle in more players for both sides of the mission.  Plus rotating the launch countries helps also.  It's the best overall approach to accomadate 3 countries.

As for the time issue, we actually went up an hour to make it easier for more players.  It's possible that it could be upped some more time if many players need an extra 30 minutes or an hour.  Again, it's the best approach to accomadate more players.

This is week 4 and we're still smoothing out the rough edges.  I'm sure in a couple of months from now we'll be running a well oiled machine unless the zombie apocalypse happens. :D

I am really happy and excited for all of us that Kuya has taken the time and made the effort for the The 8th Air Force Missions.  I think most of us agree that these missions add to our game and can be enjoyed by many.  Kuya has done alot of work to make sure that at these missions, everyone can have a place at the table, friend and foe alike.  He has created a website for organizational purposes and planning that is ready to take us as far as we want.  By joining the 8th AF you are agreeing to simply fly the one mission a week with the 8th AF squad.  You will not have to give up and squad affiliation you currently have in the mains or FSO.  I think there are players who have not done FSO's or scenarios and by flying the Thursday 8th AF missions they may want to try some more.

This is Kuya's idea and his baby.  I am here to support him as much as I can.  There are plenty of command slots and pilot slots.

Without AAKuya I'd probably would of quit the game two weeks ago, given me new life and interest in the game, get to meet up and fly with friends from all countries and squads.

I will certainly be on hand for any help if needed, thanks to Zooney and Corky - the mission has been not only fun but outstanding to learn from :)
