I've worked on airplanes for a long time now, and there is one thing that is a constant. Airplanes break down. So how about random stuff on the plane breaking down while you are flying. Not every flight, but every once in awhile. Make it an option that you can use if you feel like you want a little bit more realism, and if you use it you get extra perk points. Here is a list of some of the stuff that could go wrong:
- Hung bomb/external tank
- jammed gun
- fuel won't transfer from one of the internal tanks
- cockpit gauges stop working
- engine problems
- radio broken
- oxygen problems
-
no thanks

Hmm, there's an interesting thought. I wouldn't do it, but some people might.
+1 if it's an option.

+1 in flight failures
The solution for inflight failures would have to be added to the game also?

The solution? Land.

The solution? Land.
For you? Don't turn the checkbox on. If some guys want realism for more perks, then let them. It doesn't give them an edge over those who don't use it, it's the total opposite.

If I win I want to win because I out flew the other guy, not because his airplane randomly broke.

this.
or more specifically, because HE made a mistake.. not the mechanic, or the factory worker, or the designer, etc.

isnt that what the trees are for?

Well not your choice! It was his choice to have the fail or not!
+1

I break my own airplane well enough on my own, thank you. :D

It would not be my choice to hear the complaining and excuses being made because "it's NEVER my fault I got shot down" We already have plenty of that.

Amen to that!
And -1 to the suggestion of random failures. I fail enough with a fully functional plane.

- Hung bomb/external tank
- jammed gun
- fuel won't transfer from one of the internal tanks
- cockpit gauges stop working
- engine problems
- radio broken
- oxygen problems
People shooting at me usually take care of all of the above :D

Trying to figure out how this would improve gameplay.

Which is why we'll never have this added to Aces High. HiTech has stated in the past he will not add random plane failures for the reason you stated.
ack-ack

I agree about the idea for in flight failure. Since this game revolves around being realistic then in flight failure should be a part of it. And the idea for being optional for more perkies is a real bonus for accepting that your plane is subject to real life circumstances..
-
No. Random is running into a noob that has just learned his wrist is uber and he can transit rudder and spray to get that one lucky hit that kills a pilot. Thats enough random right there.

Random is not equal to realistic.
-
Well the idea is original and a total 180 from the usual request of aircraft getting repaired while sitting on the re-arm pad...
-1 if I want to operate something that may breakdown at any second... I'll go mow my lawn.
-
A sizable percentage of aircraft had to turn back due while on missions due to mechanical problems - how would you like to take off only to have your plane start acting up once you get to 20k? yeah it wouldn't be much fun.
There is a balance of realism and arcade, thus is why we also don't have "friendly" collisions - imagine a mission taking off and suddenly 20 planes piled up on the runway?

1. I fly for real ,I love to fly and have a lot of fun flying.
2. I have had things break on my plane,(so far this year has been auto pilot & servo, volt meter these do to major pilot screw up when jump starting plane, dg and vacuum pump) I have had no fun when they broke nor I have I had fun when any thing on my plane has broke.
3. I write games that are supposed to be fun.
If it is not fun in real life, why do you think it would be any fun in a game?

Same reason people do it in hardcore flight sims (DCS or FSX), they want the realism and the challenge of it. I wouldn't use it, but I can understand why some one would want the option of having it turned on.
-
They want the realism and challenge but then go on and land wheels up to get another plane faster.

Tell "them" (whoever "them" might be) that.

I don't think it's fun to get shot down in real life... :noid :bolt:

:)
I don't think it's fun in the game either. But it is a necessary evil.

Would be cool, but totally not worth it. We have Rise of Flight for this...
