Here's a problem I haven not seen before. My son went to play Skyrim today and he tried to start it by using the open with right click deal. He failed to notice that the checkbox was selected by the use this program for all types. Now every shortcut on my desktop had been changed to try and run with steam. I tried a system restore to yesterday but it didn't work. Any suggestions on getting my shortcuts back to what they should be?
Thanks

fairly easy to fix, is this on windows xp?
-
Windows 7
-
try opening a command prompt execute the following command
assoc .lnk=lnkfile
-
That changed a few, but even when I go to start-programs every folder I open is a .lnk
-
try executing
assoc folder=Folder

I lost power briefly and now I can't get it to finish booting even after I select safe mode w/networking. Thinking of trying windows repair

you don't have much choice at that point. Hopefully none of your hardware is damaged

Yup, at least I backed stuff up to my external drive yesterday anticipating this outcome
-
btw you should be using different accounts, with yours as the only admin account on the machine. everyone else gets a limited account. much more secure and no one else can mess up your stuff :aok

excellent suggestion, Ill have to implement it

even better - everyone including yourself uses a limited account, and only use the administrator account for doing system administration.
I should also have said - all accounts have passwords.
