I'm considering divesting myself of pretty much all of my property and going to work on a ship. Now before you say anything I know it's long hours and cramped spaces. That doesn't really bother me. I have always enjoyed the hospitality industry and now that Squid is off and on his own why not? Anybody have any contacts in the industry? I could use some. :)

All I know is from what I saw on Undercover Boss. You have to sign an 8-10 month contract, the hours are long and you have to share quarters.
I did find this with a quick search, hope it helps:

Trying to get away from us? You can't escape. :D

Check monster.com.
However, if it is a change of scenery and some adventure that you are looking for why not join the pipeline or drive trucks in A'stan?
They both pay 100K+ per year.

Why would you need to get rid of all your property? (honest question, not flaming)
Sounds like fun, I love the sea, and get on it as much as time (and wife) will allow :aok

I read an article (cnn.com?) saying that some cruise ship employees basically get screwed by their employers. Long contracts, strange pay scales, hidden costs, and pretty bad loss of personal freedom. The article focused on "entertainers" and serving staff if I recall correctly, but the point is that you really need to be careful and talk to people who are doing the job already BEFORE you sign anything.
As for the comment about working overseas... http://www.internations.org/magazine/what-s-an-expat-anyway-15272
And ex-WB/AH player Ozymandias did the expat thing after some life changes, and found lots more life to live. He did the blog thing but for some reason it seems to only go back to 2009 now. But he did the Afghanistan/Iraq thing back when it was more dangerous in Iraq, and found himself a new wife too.

A friend of mine with a love of radio control airplanes did small UAV launch/recovery ops in *stan and pocketed 6 figures in a year. Not an easy way to make coin but it was something few people can say they did.

I worked as a expat before, it can make for an interesting life of adventure, making worldwide friends, memories that you will always treasure, and good money. But there are drawbacks, like missing your extended family, living with restraints, less that American standard medical care, etc. Overall I have no regrets and many great friends and memories.
Too many variables to list, but if considering the expat life, ask all the questions you can, find out everything possible, and expect a 3 month period of acclimation for it to be your new norm.

In truth simplifying my life has been appealing for a long time. I'm not considering this so much for the adventure and travel and I have no illusions about hard work, long hours, and crap pay. But I actually wanted to do the cruise ship thing and was looking into it before Squid came along. Now that he's off on his own I want to give it a run :)

It would be an honor to be a crew member on Oasis of the Seas, saw a preview of it last week and figured when I find another job i'll save up for a trip

When i was about 18, i had a friend that worked on a Forbes yacht.
He was only a deck hand, but talk about money, that kid had a brand new 1978 Trans-Am.
He had photo's with Susan Anton and other models & photo's of other famous people
with money and influence (obviously-Forbes).
Did you check into the private yacht thing?
Good Luck :aok
 Oz

Try for spot on the Disney cruise ship, watch how fast you want to commit suicide.

If I was ever to do something like this it would be on a Windjammer type cruise ship. Never been always wanted t. Only way to cruise. Completely missing the point of an ocean voyage on those monster ships IMHO.
Good luck to you
