After several deployments, an MQ-9 Reaper refuses to fly anymore combat sorties. Marvin 79 seems to have sunken into a very deep depression.

Settle down Francis. You are getting butt hurt over nothing. It is not meant to poke fun at people with PTSD. It is simply a joke about a flipping drone getting PTSD. Last I checked, drones aren't human. Perhaps you should lobby your Congressman for a law to stop us from laughing about a drone....?
As for the Whale trying to hump a submarine, that's just funny. That you attach a stigma to it is your own issue, not mine.

the drone thing is making fun of the fact that some people are refusing to deploy due to ptsd and the fact that the armed forces are actually acknowledging now that ptsd is actually a problem that affects soldiers. it is just a joke at the expense of those who have served and have ptsd.
it isnt funny.

many many moons ago when we used to take the camaro to the track, it was between rounds. it was the first night i'd managed to get past the 2nd round, and we had the car parked, with a battery charger hooked up. to do this, we had to remove the trunk lid. it was held on with pins.
whelp, when it's getting close to time to get into the staging lanes, we can't find the pins. alex looks at me, and asks how the #%$% i lost em. my reply?

In reality this is a demonstration not of taking offense , but rather a subtle little ploy called Building a moral high ground , and the pretending I was standing on it the whole time . It involves a bit of sneaky self deception rendering the user completely isolated from the fact he was purposefully missing the point, but also feeling good about his self at the same time.

One of my brothers committed suicide by hanging himself from a light fixture 21 years ago. Another brother and I still crack jokes about hanging his box of ashes from a tree outside...../shrug

I think like lots of jokes, it depends on how close to home it hits you. On the one hand, the joke seems funny to me as long as I don't think about it too much. But I know a bunch of people in that particular business, and suddenly it's really not funny at all. I guess talking to co-workers who need to talk about the things they've done and seen, but can't because it would either end their career or get them thrown in jail, gives a different perspective on the subject. PTSD and the RPA (UAV, whatever) business is a really dark corner of the world right now. So there is a small but growing population that probably would have thought it was pretty funny a short time ago, who now probably wouldn't complain about the joke but who also don't think there is anything funny about it because they're living the reality behind the joke.
