Title: Patch 2.28

After installing this patch: AH loads up, I get into the MA and then it crashes.

Anyone else having this problem?  If there a fix?

 I had the same problem, had to delete my file and download it again. Caution, save your settings. :salute

A complete reinstall seems to have fixed the problem.

Not fixed .. after a complete reinstall, I had backed up the Settings folder, the game ran for about 30 mins then crashed caused a Windows BSD.  After restarting the PC and trying AH again, the original error came back, so I'm back to square one.

Do we have a 2.283 on the way, or some other fix, please?

EDIT:
I let the auto-downloader download the hires texture pack. When it finished, I stayed and played a while. Then I quit and re-started the game so the hires textures would be active. Then I'd get dumped to Desktop within 20 seconds of entering any arena. In looking at my main AH folder, I see "HRP2270TO2280.EXE" with file size of around 10Mb and dated yesterday. I also see "hirestex.res" sized 166Mb dated 1/25/12. I renamed both, and manually downloaded the hirestex pack from the HTC website. Installed it (size around 175Mb dated 7/10/12) and everything works again...no dump to Desktop, and I was able to play around and fly and stuff.

I was unable to stay in game more than 60-90 seconds.  And I tried your technique of renaming the hires file and manually downloading/extracting it, and voila I got to do a whole 30 minute sortie.  I was so excited that I logged off to post here.
