Title: Install issues
Post by: AAJagerX on July 20, 2012, 12:56:11 PM
I'm having an issue with the new release.

The hires pack won't take for some reason.  Even by installing manually.

I did a complete uninstall, redownloaded the game and hires.  Installed the game (it didn't change the shortcut icon, which struck me as odd), installed the hires pack, and ran the game.  It doesn't seem to recognize that the hires is installed.  Also, the reflectivity slider has no effect on the aircraft.

Dxdiag to follow.

If the ICON on the desktop is not changing, then it usually means it is linked to the wrong executable.  Remove the desktop ICON, do a full install, over whatever you think you are running and then see if it is ok.

Everytime i enter the MA it says its down loading the high res pac. Then when i leave the game it says that AH is installing the patch and I need to restart the game to install. I do this and it says downloading the patch. :bhead

Current release version is "2.28 Patch 2".  Look at your version at startup time.  If it does not match the current one, you will be updating a patch a time until you get to the current version.

If you are really far behind, then just grab the full version (http://downloads.hitechcreations.com/AH2282.EXE) and install it over the top of your existing version.

Uninstalled everything again, deleted the icon, reinstalled again.  Still the old icon came back, no reflections work, and won't run hires textures.

I'm at a loss.

I cannot access game I get initiation failed with-9 man wld-failed 1 error message.  Tried to open as administrator and still couldn't get in.

I got mine figured out but it's strange.  I can only open the game from the icon that's in the Aces High folder.   I can create a new shortcut, but it reverts to the old style icon.

Also, the reflections seem very subdued.  They don't look anything like the examples I've seen.  It's like the reflection slider doesn't do anything at all.  I still see my FR drop, but gain no additional reflections.

Oh well, I guess at least the hires is working again.

I verified that I have the current version and patch...the game runs fine for me now after patch 3 no problems except it I keep getting messages for the terrain download and to restart aces high to take effect.

That message means the game cannot find its resources to run.  Usually due the executable being moved to the desktop, rather than a shortcut being created.  Remore any desktop ICONS, and then install the game over the top of y9our current installation to correct it.

Seems Windows has a penchant for caching desktop ICONS.  Right-click on the desktop ICON, go to "Properties", select the "Shortcut" tab and hit the "Change ICON" button.

The reflections should be subdued, but it will depend on the plane and the skin for the plane.  The slider adjusts the update rate of the environment and does not change anything related to how much reflection is done.  That is all built into the skin.

I have manually downloaded the new version and manually downloaded the high res downloads. I have confirmed the proper version and patch on game start-up. My desktop icon did change to the new version. The game runs good except each time I log on it still automatically is downloading the high res download. I click ok and move on, then the game says it is downloaded and then each time I log off the window pops up telling me Aces High needs to be restarted for everything to take effect. What can I do to stop the autodownloading?  FYI...patch 3 did help me to prevent game crashing.

What is the file name of the high resolution file you installed from?

Mine did the same after patch 2.
It would try to download the hi-res texture file every time I entered the arena.

I had to go and manually download the correct hi-res zip file, install it, then all was fine.

A common error many people are making is to not completely exit the game when the high resolution file downloads.  If you do not do that, the installation will not happen and the game will keep asking to download the file, voer and over again.

I have been compleatly exiting the game! Also If I'm in an arena and try to quit to go to another it kicks me out of the game.

I did completely exit. Nothing ever happened. Tried twice. Same result.
Manual install worked fine.

Not sure Skuzzy or I don't know what you mean. I just went to the AH Main page, then to downloads, downloaded the game, and downloaded the hi res pack...both from the main link selection.

Usually after downloads and patches, the wizard pops up to click agree and you see it do its thing in the window. I am not getting that yet.

ok...so now the in-game window no longer pops up, yet when I exit the game now it says AH has a patch to install. I click ok and nothing happens. I think I'm good now, but I do not know how to get rid of the message from popping up.
