Title: Aces High not recognizing video card?
Post by: Motherland on July 24, 2012, 11:03:10 AM
Not really sure if this goes in tech support or bugs, honestly...
Anyway, I just got a new laptop that, according to my receipts and drivers, has an nVidia NVS 5400M dedicated graphics card. However, when I loaded up Aces High to see what kind of frame rates I could get, I got this...

Which is clearly not even an nVidia card but rather some kind of onboard thing. I'm not honestly sure whether the game is actually using the card and just not reading it, because performance is pretty good for onboard (though a bit disappointing for having a dedicated card)? But I have an i7 and 8 gigs of RAM...

Pretty sure this is a Tech Suppoort issue and thusly a DxDIAG report would be nice, top third only to save you time and effort posting it.

The game uses whatever Windows tells it is the active hardware. Check your settings in Windows to make sure the onboard is disabled and you're using the vid card - if indeed you have one in your laptop.

Do seem to be using an onboard controller according to DxDiag.... really weird... the computer has the drivers for the card I ordered on it...

you may have to check out the bios to see if there is an option for the primary graphics...could even be a lenovo control center program or something like that. that 5400m isn't going to be a whole lot better than the intel 4000 embedded in the cpu.

The game uses whatever Windows tells it is the active hardware. Check your settings in Windows to make sure the onboard is disabled and you're using the vid card - if indeed you have one in your laptop.

Aye. And if you're using an Asus board or other brand and are using Virtu software to manage which GPU is handling your video make sure it's set to use your discrete card for AH instead of the one built into the CPU which is what this is showing. That built in GPU on the CPU just isn't gonna cut it for games. It's there for video encoding and such.
