Title: Hungarian Badass
Post by: Rob52240 on July 28, 2012, 02:38:33 AM
Not you Debrody!

Tibor Rubin's story should be known by every American. Born a Hungarian Jew, he was sent to die in a concentration camp as a child. When freed by Americans, he vowed to God that he would become a GI himself. He later saved his entire Army unit in Korea by defending a mountaintop alone. When captured, he refused release so that he could use lessons he learned in concentration camps to help other American POWs survive. Few lives embody the love of God -- and the greatness of the human spirit -- more than this child war refuge who received our nation's highest honor.

First time I've heard "I am dissapoint" outside of the martial arts forums.

I think Royce gracie said it around 1999 in a forum post right after saying "watch you mouth...call me lame".

This is beyond badass, I never heard of him - then again my family was stuck in Hungary after the war - they didn't leave the country until 1955.

why they leave?

why they leave?

Part of my family fled because the Hungarians revolted in budapest against the Russians in 1955/1956 - huge uprising and chaos broke out, before the war my family were mechanics and owned dealerships and repair shops all over budapest, when russians took over they took everything from them, so my grandfather decided to bolt to Austria with my dad at the time, half my family was stuck in Hungary and other half fled to england and eventually canada.

Valour is a rarely seen word. The kind of valour he demonstrated is even more uncommon. I always am amazed to witness the absolute humility of the very bravest. Humbling  :salute

Wow.  What an amazing story.  What an amazing man.

 :salute

The sad thing is that there are thousands of stories like that throughout time that we will never know about.  It is not only Tibor Rubin we honor, but also the many more (and ultimately few) like him.

I hope all people learn from people like him.
