Title: a bunch of yaks but which ones?
Post by: Citabria on July 29, 2012, 03:38:11 AM
there is only one family of late war frontline fighters still very undermodelled graphically and forlorn. the formidable yak family.

heres my wishlist of christmas yaks.

yak1 (razorback)
yak1b (bubble canopy)

yak9d (long range)
yak9t (37mm)

yak9u/yak9ut (definitive version of the yak, aparently several armament options could possibly be incorporated into the yak9u with the yak9ut... 23mm, 37mm etc)

yak3 (smaller lighter with same engine as yak9u possibly a perk plane) mid 1944 intro

Shouldn't we get at least one Yak-7 as well?

Yak-3P produced from April 1945 until mid-1946, armed with 3 × 20 mm Berezin B-20 cannon with 120 rounds for the middle cannon and 130 rpg for the side weapons. The three-cannon armament with full ammunition load was actually 11 kg (24 lb) lighter than that of a standard Yak-3, and the one-second burst mass of 3.52 kg (7.74 lb) was greater than that of most contemporary fighters. Starting in August 1945, all Yak-3 were produced in the Yak-3P configuration with a total of 596 built.

You could make the case it was built during War time, but didn't see combat action.

Why would you perk a Yak-3?

That's what relying on machine translation yields, I suppose.   :(

The yak7b would be sweet and possibly a mig3 to help fill out the early war planeset.

Jak-3 ~ a little better turning 109F. Is the 109F a perk plane?  ;)
Otherwise, yesss, +1 from me, along with the Tu-2 or Pe-2
The razorback jak-1 would be especially sweet.

Whilst agreeing whole heartedly with the general wish  however the GPW Yak 3 of 1944 had the earlier V105PF engine rather than the later V107 of the Yak 9U.

The Yak3 (v107) saw no service in the GPW and (despite considerable research here) no records can be found of any active in the Manchurian campaign of August 1945.

We already have the Yak-9U and T.

Yak-1 and Yak-7 would be the best use of our time if you want Russian fighter. Yak-3 would be highly simmilar to the Yak-9U in preformance.

If only for this reason

and it seems the yak 3 will sustain a tighter radius turn and accelerate better (than the 9U) from slow to medium speeds.

I love the yak, but taht cockpit setup is seriously terrible, tough to aim.

Anyone know what the reason for that square in the middle is for? Structural reinforcment? Additional armor glass, (like the big sheet in the P-38G's cocpit)? asthetic choice by the designer?

when the 3d model is redone id suspect the view would be closer to that of the la5/7.

also the yak3 had no front windscreen armor just a clear view. another reason to want the yak3.

I think you've had your defenition of "sexy" skewed. The Re2005 is clearly the sexiest aircraft that even has a shot of being added.

But for next addition, I vote the IAR 80 and 81. IMO, something that saw combat throughout a minor combatant's entire role in the war is more worthy than a high-preformance fighter (with preformance similar to that of the Yak-9U) used by a major combatant for the last 8 months of the war.

After that, G.55 please   :pray!!!!

According to the French pilots of the Normandie-Niémen Group, the Yak 3 was superior to both the Mustang and Spitfire when it came to dogfighting.

ack-ack

So was the zero.

I understand that many would like the yak3 to perform like this plane in the arenas.

From historical point of view the variants needed are:

Yak-1/3 family:

Yak-1
Yak-1b

Yak-3 would be a nice bonus but not a necessity. The later war Soviet fighters are well covered already.

Yak-7/9 family:

Yak-7
Yak-7b (later low back version)
Yak-9
Yak-9D

Yak-1/3 line of fighter is still totally missing from AH. Soviets had three first line fighter families: Lavotchkins, Yak-1/3 and Yak-7/9 -series. All were massively produced. I think it's hard for anyone to imagine a situation where lets say USAAF would totally be one of its three first line fighter familes (P-38, P-47, P-51). That's the state where VVS planeset is currently in.

A Yak-3, TU-2, addition would have been far better then this recent thing.
