Hi all..
Well, just getting used to this so please bear with me. In looking around, I notice views from outside the aircraft, both watching a formation moving along through the topography and also the ac being flown. What keystrokes are used to get there? Looks like a great game and each time I get shot down, I learn a bit more as to how to get a little farther. So any help or tips would be appreciated. Why is it that when sometimes I try to takeoff from a field, it says that "You cannot fly your aircraft from that field"?
Thanks in advance for any tips!

Welcome to the madness.
If I were you, I would start here http://www.hitechcreations.com/Help-Section/Getting-Started/aces-high-help-start.html (http://www.hitechcreations.com/Help-Section/Getting-Started/aces-high-help-start.html) After you know all that is in there, come to the forums.
Also, there is a "help and training" folder which may be a good place to post questions. Some of the folks that visit the forums are, well, not nice, and simplistic questions like the one you posed might get a nasty response. (sorry, but you can't control the web forum trolls)
:salute and have fun.

Hi.
Run !

F3 and F5 for external views, but only bombers do have that in flight, fighters can use it while taxiing on the ground only.
"You cannot fly your aircraft from that field" happens either because -
- It's a vehicle base or a port and the Fi-156 is the only plane enabled there
- All hangars of a certain plane type on the airfield you are on have been (temporarily) destroyed
- You are trying to fly a plane that's generally not available on most bases (Me 163) or not being used in that arena (late war planes in early war, WW1 planes in late war, and so on)
Regardless of reason, planes and GV which are not available are marked in red on the list in hangar.
Welcome to AH and visit The Aces High Trainer Corps Website (http://trainers.hitechcreations.com/) :old:

Welcome to the addiction wingtank. Lusche's post answers all your posted questions really well, the best advice I can give is use the "Alt R" key combo to film your sorties, then watch your film later to learn more about what you did right and wrong, and how you beat or lost to the red guys.
Good luck and have fun :salute

Welcome - also note that you cannot look outside in anything but transports and bombers in the main arena. Welcome to the madness. Steep learning curve, but its allot of fun.

HTC added a warning box to make sure you really wanted to quit the game that way. If you don't believe me, try it...they got tired of all the jerks spewing that tired old meme and were probably losing business because of it.

Welcome!! :salute As others have recommended visit the trainers site. This game takes a bit of investment into really see why its so great. Be prepared to crash alot, and then alot more in the process of learning it ;)

Welcome!
In the beginning, you WILL get shot down a lot by folks that have more experience, but the trick is to have fun during the process.
It's essential that you learn about 20 basic commands to look around, examine the in-flight map, select weapons, and activate basic flight controls. Eventually, you will want to "map" these to keyboard buttons or joystick buttons or mouse buttons of your own choosing. After that, you will gradually gain comfort with the remaining controls. If you like to learn the basics through short video clips, here is a set that I created when I trained a Boy Scout troop that had NO experience:

I hope this helps!

I printed out a list of the keyboard commands but you can easily find what you need in game by going to the "key mapping" and find it there.
Doesn't work well while in a dogfight, though.
