Title: An alternative way to display the clipboard and other extra data.
Post by: Stellaris on August 07, 2012, 08:04:47 AM
The clipboard sits nicely tucked away in the cockpit until you call it up, and then it hovers in mid air, fixed on the screen no matter what you do with your POV.  I find it distracting, to say the least.  Why not have the clipboard's "resting position" on the pilot's left knee (you know, like a kneeboard, like pilots have?)  That way a simple glance down will let you check out whatever you need to check out on the clipboard.  This is what pilots would normally be doing anyway.  A checkbox in Flight Preferences would choose home position, and the clipboard could still be brought up normally (and perhaps it would have to be if you wanted to mouse anything.

A similar system could be used for the radio and text boxes and the damage list, perhaps on the right knee, and perhaps on a display surface that looks like the clipboard, rather than in a semi-transparent box.

I recognize that the plane models don't currently include a pilot's body with attached knees to put these things on.  I'm not advocating doing all the work of putting pilot models in all the planes - I'd just like to have all the extra information displayed in a fixed location inside the cockpit, vice in a fixed location on the screen where it interferes with the increasingly immersive eye-candy the AH world is producing.

And my thanks BTW, for the eye candy.  Bytimes the simulated sky is just beautiful with the mist and the sunset and the purple mountains and the grassy runway verge.

Cheers!
