And why?
Im not a tanker but when I do grab one I grab a T-34/85. Its fast, good armor, a great gun, and just feels right. Its a bargain at 1 perk and it can be tough to kill from the air. I Love this tank. Most of all its speed. If I can quote the worlds first beatnik tanker, "Yasee man I like to feel I can get out of trouble even faster then I got into it".

-
Ironic that you're quoting a Sherman tank commander :D
-
Good movie and great quote.
Don't tank much though....but when/if I ever get the itch and the map is right it would have to be a Type 97-Kai Shinhoto Chi-Ha for me.
-
I don't tank, but if I have to vote for a good looking, sexy tank...Panther
(http://www.militaryfactory.com/armor/imgs/panzer-5-panther_2.jpg)
-
I used to oogle over the Tiger tank until the Panther came out, simply is the best tank of the war for a reason, and in game.
Its mobility, Armor and firepower simply stand out, defensively or offensively in Aces high its simply a beast.
-
Don't tank, but history wise, the Shermans and the Panzer IIIs. The short barrel 50 Panzer III for lack of a better way to say it, looks good to me.
The early Sherman M4A1, A2, A3 and A4 with the smaller driver and loader hatches, and the short barrel 75 have a good look to them
Obviously the choice would change if we're talking about survivability :)
-
Panzer F or Tiger I depending on if I'm farming perks or burning them with the cannon equipped M-16 for a change of pace.
-
Stug3 and Hetzer, Jagdpanther, but so far HTC decided not to include turretless designs.
-
The panther. Now if it only had the correct 360% ring mounted MG 34/42 that most late war German armor had.
-
This one, because it holds 3 gallons of margaritas. It's also great for making friends before games.

None .

M4 with rockets.

In AH I really like the Panther. At long ranges it is tough to beat. It is fast enough to move, reloads fast enough to win a Mexican stand off, and has enough armor to shrug off all but the big guns outside of 1600 yards. The Tiger is a close second but it is really handicapped by a horrible turret traverse rate.
In the actual conflict I am partial to the Cromwell when it was armed 75mm gun with APC M61 ammo. Its speed, mobility, and enough gun (with the HV AP ammo) made it a force to be reckoned with in Western Europe. A close second is the German Panzer Mk IV H, it had so many great qualities and even at the end of the war its 75mm gun was still superior to the US 76mm and Soviet 85mm. I sometime wonder what would have happened it the Germans would have poured money in to the Mk IV instead of the wasting funds on the wonder tanks that did nothing. Yeah, some people and analyst think it was already maxed out, but I think a redesign of the hull armor and frontal turret armor would have done more good than the wonder tanks that did nothing. Then again, Germany was running out of tank crews rather quickly. Hindsight is 20/20. ;)

In game currently - M-18 or Panther
Now if they would add the U.S. T-30 or Pershing tank that would be awesome :O

Easily my two favorite tanks are the Panzer F and the Tiger 2
The Panzer has an eny which inmho is way too high. It has the firepower to take out any tank in the game at even long ranges. Sure it cant take hits but a H model doesnt do much better. The smaller profile of the tank also makes it harder for an enemy to gauge the correct range, making you a harder target. You also get lots of perks do to its interesting eny which allows for...
...The tigerII!! The only tank in the game that can legitimatly soak round after round like nothing else. I mean NOTHING else, not a tiger1 not a panther, not a T34/85's front turret, nothing. It has a main cannon that can deal with anything even at long ranges, and the zeiss sight's zoom gives a superios advantage over most other tanks. as long as you treat it like a claymore (front towards enemy) It is the litterally the only tank that I can feel confident of surviving a frontal shot in at close to medium ranges. Just dont expose your sides or rear, then you're like everything else.
-
M4(75) for shelling.
(White) Tiger I for hunting.
(White) Tiger II for base defense.
-
T-34/85
It has the best close-in gun, low profile, I use it in some ways like I use an M-18, it is fast, good at flanking, and has the added advantage of good protection. Close-in it can defeat the frontal armor of a Tiger I with one shot, the side armor of a Tiger II with one or two shots, and can kill a panther from the side from a good distance away. The sight in my opinion is very easy to aim with, and is the best at firing on the move or at moving tanks.
It also doubles as an adequate AA platform. Catch the sleeping low-flying nikis and typhies :devil
-
Panzer H and F along with my m3 with the 75 for those pesky king tigers :devil
-
Took a Panther out once. I clipped a small tree with it and the thing over turned :huh
Must have been one of the Kursk Panthers.
-
Panther is easily the best all-around tank in the game right now.
Armor
Firepower
Mobility
good optics
good at going hull-down
And lets be frank, nothing looks quite as predatory as a Panther. It just sorta lives up to the name. The Tiger II looks more dangerous and powerfull, but it doesn't have that lean predatory look to it that the Panther does.

Yes my girl here is my fav...nothing like her anywhere. In game Panther is hard to beat, in real life she was best tank for sure Speed armor and hitting power. Best tank in the world till the russians fielded the T-52. The PZIV was also a great tank as is witnessed by it's employment to the end of the war. 75mm Long was a great gun and could hold it's own with most tank weapons of the day.

M-18, for at least ONE reason... :D

I must ask you BAR, why do you prefer the big guns over the M-18, the vehicle you obsessed over for so long? :)
Thanks for getting it added though, I love going big game hunting in the hellcat.

It's great zipping up behind a Tiger or Panther who meandering along engine running, can't hear a thing...BOOM! Lost all those perkies from a thin skinned hellcat. :salute :neener: :ahand :bhead

I love sneaking up behind a Tiger II, waiting until he turns the turret perpendicular to you, shooting him in the turret which instantly disables it, and doing laps around him, hitting him in the sides until he goes down. Usually 3-4 shots per Tiger II :devil

Is there any tank in AH that can kill a Tiger or a Panther in 1 shot ? And not its equivalent. The tank has to be less than the Tiger or the Panther.

Yes, all of them can

Point blank into side or rear most can ;)
But the Sherman VC's gun is one of the best in game, absolutely on par with Panther's and Tiger's gun.
-
Search one shot kills...there was a nice thread on that...? :salute

T-34/85 can penetrate the front armor of a Tiger I with 1 shot, and from a good distance away, to. You can also kill a panther in the side with 1 shot in just about anything

You can kill a KT with a Panzer F's 75mm Long barrel. I knocked out one (just the one though :() freshly (he didn't get shot at) spawned KT with my Panzer F a few tours back. Got around him, came in from behind, closed to point blank range and with one blast I made 8 perks. :D
-
Favorite in game, Good ole PanzerIV H.. The one I always used most..
Not in game, PanzerIII J.. Because it is perfectly proportioned!
-
The King Tiger's dominance in the long range game is obvious.
As for those of you who have not have access or have not seen my spread sheet on AH tanks and their performance, here is a quick bit of info:
In terms of AP ability at 2000 yards in AH, here is the ranking:
King Tiger
Firefly
Panther
Tiger
Panzer IV H
Sherman 76mm and M18
Panzer IV F (L/43)
T34/85
Sherman 75mm
T34/76
Panzer IV F (L/24)
M8 Greyhound
Keep in mind that the ability of the projectile to penetrate the armor and the amount of damage the projectile can do once it penetrates are two different things.
Edit: Added 1000 yards AP ability ranking:
King Tiger
Firefly
Panther
Tiger
T34/85 with HVAP (drops off significantly at 1200 yards though)
Panzer IV H
Sherman 76mm and M18
Panzer IV (L/43)
T34/76 with HVAP (drops off significantly at 1200 yards though)
Sherman 75mm
M8 Greyhound
Panzer IV F (L/24)
If the T34's do not have HVAP available then they would hold their respective ranks as they do in the 2000 yard list.
As far as HE goes, the King Tiger, Tiger, and T34/85 still rule the roost with 234 lbs of damage, and then the Sherman 75mm is second with 185 lbs of damage (the LVT4 should be here as well since it fires the SAME HE projectile), then most other tanks are in the 154 lbs range, with the Firefly at 140 and the Sherman 76mm and M18 having only 108 lbs of HE damage. Food for thought. :aok

-
Why is the HE round of the 75mm Sherman significantly more powerful than the firefly or the 76mm? Thinner casing? Better explosive?
-
Lower velocity shell, so the shell casing doesn't have to be as thick to withstand being accelerated to several hundred meters per second in the distance of less than 10 feet.
-

Ok, that makes sense. Thanks :aok
-
Lower velocity shell, so the shell casing doesn't have to be as thick to withstand being accelerated to several hundred meters per second in the distance of less than 10 feet.
Check the amount of TNT in each shell. As for the specifics if the US 75mm and 75mm Shermans, and the British Firefly and the 17 Pdr:
US 75mm = 8.86 kg warhead w/ .68kg pf TNT
US 76mm = 5.84 kg warhead w/ .39kg of TNT
British 17 Pdr = 5.84 warhead w/ .71kg of TNT (late war)
Keep in mind that the British developed a much better HE round for the 17 Pdr as the way went on, the HE round that AH has in game is modeled after the EW version which was less powerful. I've posted on this issue before, but I think HTC should re-evaluate the tank HE and be more historically accurate with their HE values. Each tank should get their due, imo. Use the Panzer IV as the standard at 156 lbs of damage (keep it as is), then scale from there.
-
how late did the improved HE shells come out? If its like Febuary of 1945, then I don't think they should be represented in game.
However, I do think that the German and US tanks should also recieve a few rounds of APCR ammunition as an option. Say 5 per tank, since although they were historically used, they didn't see large use in the tank units.
Germans just never produced large quantities of the rounds IIRC, and for the USA, AT artillery got first go at the shells, and the TD units got second pick, and the tank units got what was left over.
Say, maybe 10 rounds of APCR max for the M18, to represent the greater use with tank destroyers?
For the brits, give them a similar number of APDS rounds, but have them do even less damage than APCR rounds do (smaller projectile).
Or for vehicles that used APDS more widely, such as the Cromwell and Valentine (with the 6lbers), we could give them a larger loadout of APDS as an option.
Or, we could just add on an extra loadout option including APCR/APDS rounds, that we can disable by arena if the rounds weren't used during the time period.
-
Panther, hands down. Has everything a Tanker can want, well, except the perk price at times lol. Great gun, sloping armor, perfect speed.

Agreed, I used to be a Tiger Tank junkie - laughed at the Panther all the time - after driving one I am a panther crackhead :)
-
And the panther has a superior turret traverse speed as well. That is hugely important if you need to put your gun on an enemy that might be flanking you.
-
Don't like tanking at all, wirbs, osties, m16's and jeeps are about all I'm interested in. I Just can't tank in this game at all and is the reason I went to WoT for a time. Yes its arcadey, but still waaay better looking, less gamey and miles more fun. I came back here for the air combat.
-

Same here, very rarely do I drive anything other than a Panther (I don't GV much though)
Pz IVF + HE = Town Killer Perk Getter as well.

All tanks have the same OBJ rating, so they should get the same number of perks for killing objects.

Woa, did not know that!! Thanks!
-

Better check that stat. It has an average turret traverse, ahead of the Tiger and Panzer IV (Tiger is by far the worst), behind the T34's, and in the same rank as the King Tiger, M4's, M18, and Firefly. Nothing superior about it. ;)
-
Woa, did not know that!! Thanks!
Which, imo, HTC is taking the safe road with and not giving credit where credit is due. For instance: the M4A3/75mm should be earn more OBJ points than the Firefly and M18, because it was meant to be used at an HE platform first and foremost and the other two were TD's. ESPECIALLY with the Calliope mounted on top. It would be more difficult to do but the Panzer IV F/1 (short barrel) was specifically a infantry support tank and was meant to hammer all things but enemy armor. The way HTC has the OBJ scores currently set up, at least with the OBJ ratings is to reward those with the most difficult job of getting their role accomplished with the highest or near highest OBJ score available (B5N, Boston, SBD, D3A, IL-2, etc).
Me thinks HTC would want to reward those vehicles and aircraft first off that actually performed the specific roles of infantry support, then those who performed those roles but are at the back of the line in efficiency in AH (SdKfz 251), and then give those specifically NOT designed to engage anything but enemy armor a lower OBJ score (TD's), and then the "MBT's" the average. They did it with the aircraft why not with the gv's?

I spent a lot of time digging mud out of the tracks and road wheels of the M48-A5 and the M-60 at Ft.Knox . You have not lived until you spend 5 hrs in the dark in pouring rain trying to put a track back on. I think I like AH tanks better lol.
-
Definately Challenger 2. Epic piece of hardware but still with too many lumps and sharp edges for a good dose of panzer rash. In game I can't do a darned thing with them. Drive for a bit and then get whoomphed by yet another unseen tanker

Or telling your CO you hit a couple of telephone poles with wires spread all along your path, telling him your drivers took a quick nap...
