Title: updated hi-res, now AH won't run
Post by: Krusty on August 08, 2012, 11:16:21 PM
I downloaded the hi-res last night (or the night before?) while flying, and didn't exit out to re-install it. Just figured it would keep. Tonight I tried to start AH via the desktop icon. It asked me to accept the terms of service and I did so, assuming this was just the hi-res pack installing upon the next start (as it should). However, when done it says "Initialization failed with -9 mainWLD_FAILED -1" and an OK box. I click OK and it goes away. Now every time I try to start AH I get this error and it won't run at all.

Please help? Short of full reinstall (a PITA, honestly) is there a fix?

I manually downloaded the full hi-res tex pack again off the webpage, reinstalled it on top of whatever the update did, and still get the same error.

That error happens when the game cannot find the game resources to load.

The only way to fix it is to install the full version of the game over the top of the current installation.  Before doing so, remove the desktop ICON and let the installer create a new one.

Do you happen to have more than one version of the game installed?
Did you notice the install path the hires installer was using?  Did it match where you think the game is installed?

The hires patch did seem to use the proper path. However, I noticed that recently with the icon change I now have a second "Aces High" program group under my start menu, with just the skin viewer.

Everything else is under the legacy "Aces High II" group.

Installed AH again, and luckily it didn't mess up my mapping, settings, anything. Program works now.
