I started talking about this in the MA last night, and it spurred some interest, so I though I'd post it here.
currently I'm volunteering some of my time to the WWII Fighter Aircraft Foundation in Kissimmee, Florida, working on a restoration project of a Fw 190F-8 called "Weisse Eins". This aircraft was a part of IV./JG 5 in Norway, and was shot down by an RAF Mustang on February 9th, 1945.
It was found and recovered in 1983, and restored in Texas to static condition. It was later moved to Kissimmee, where it is being restored to flying condition. This is a special project because not only will it be one of a handfull of flying Fw 190s in the world, but it will also be the only flying Fw-190 in the world with the original, fully functional BMW 801 radial engine. This engine also has an original spec Kommandogerat (essentially an early engine management computer).
only a few years away from completion!

The Paul Allen 190a5 has it's BMW working fine. I thought I read that White 1 foundation and the Collings Foundation have worked out a deal regarding White 1 too.

Very nice!
As Guppy said there is already at least one FW flying with an original BMW 801.

Does this restoration take donations by a chance?

yes, memberships cost $40 for a year I believe, which lets you enter the museum for free, and get an extended tour of the restoration area. There's a donations tab on the website under "sponsors"
EDIT: looks like the links redirect to the gift shop, which currently there's nothing up. I think if you contact them, they can give you info about donations, and set you up with a membership if you wanted
