Flown the cub a collective 6 hours yesterday and today. Here are a few pictures I've taken

Really neat to fly.

Yay! Do you fly it off turf or pavement? One FBO here stopped instructing in there's because they only had a paved runway and it kept getting groundlooped.

I fly it off of pavement. It really isn't a big deal to fly it off of pavement, just gotta be a little more lively with your feet.

That's over Canyon Lake but Travis does look much much better.

Depends on the mission. If I'm going somewhere or for anything more than 50 miles the 172 is much better, but if the only mission is to have fun and see things, then the cub is the ultimate airplane. It cruises at a blistering 65mph, and although it only burns 3.8gph it is also less than half as fast as the 172 (and that is saying something)
The 172 tolerates sloppiness much better. You can have a bad approach, bounce the landing, and still stick to the ground. The cub is basically one big wind T, and all it wants to do is point into the wind. You get a leg workout, that's for sure. I've been mixing my time building with ride giving, and all of the folks I've taken with me have been amazed how much footwork there is in keeping it pointed the right direction. There is no doubt in my mind it makes you a much better pilot.

Bah didnt think of that. We tow around 65 knots. Although I did have a pilot slingshot me once. We got to altitude and then he went level and got going around 90 knots and then we released and zoom climbed.

Some of the ships with water ballasts like to be towed faster. One wanted an 85mph tow today.

Yeah they probably have a 40:1 glide ratio though and are going for distance flights.
None of our birds have water ballasts and the sportiest glider out there is the presidents private mini-nimbus.

Spent some time in an Aeronca Champ . . similar plane.
Just flyin the pattern takes ahwile :)
Settin up base leg on approach ..feels like you have time to read a novel.
Waggle the wings .. helps others see you as you are basically a speed bump in the pattern.
Pulled up next to a hawk (the actual bird) ..
...he looked over his shoulder at me and dove away ..faster than I could go :)
A lil gusty on landing and yassir .. you gotta fly it till it is stopped and engine off.
Great for puttin around the sky .. would hate to have to go anywhere in it :)
-Frank aka GE (yer gonna have a similar treat if you get to fly a Stearman PT-19, and wait till you strap on a P-51D ..yaaa baby, that Lady *flies* :)

I flew crosswind with a peregrine in the glider once, a very cool and surreal expierence. two free spirits soaring the skies together...
