Looks like their purpose is more to fit the all-chrome scheme, the teardrop profile is probabley also just for making it look good. Given what the vehicle is and costs involved, I think the builder/designer was going purely for bells and whistles on that one.

I tried the show out and found I can only take the guy in small doses when he is on Pawn Stars to assess a vehicle.
The fact that guy got both engines working together like that is fairly impressive given his description.
