I'm going to college and I need a laptop. As my pc isnt made for gaming im looking at a gaming laptop. Im thinking about an ibugpower valkyrie heres the link, http://m.bestbuy.com/m/e/product/detail.jsp?skuId=6330406&pid=1218728614173
My question is, how well will this run AH and are there better brands out there for the same value? This is only $1350 not $1550

It might be super heavy..

It might be super heavy..
Seems like a normal weight to me.
Also gaming and laptop shouldn't belong in the same sentence.

The specs look alright for AH with lots of eye candy. A desktop with similar components would be a killer, mobile parts being somewhat slower to reduce heat producing. People play AH succesfully with far less oomph, so that laptop should serve you for several years if you weigh playability over eye candy.
Since you say you're going to college I assume you're going to live in a small room with only one table for all desktop purposes like food processing, eating, studying and computer gaming. In a situation like that, everything that has a "storage mode" is worth considering. Weight isn't an issue if you're not going to run around the campus carrying your laptop to every lecture.
As with any laptop, use it on a hard clean surface for longevity. Extra space between the tabletop and the laptop is recommended for better airflow. Letting a cat sleep on the keyboard when the laptop is idle is not a good idea (seriously, I've seen a laptop which had overheated due to being on all day, cat's enjoying the warmth!)

Are you planning on taking the laptop from class to class?

I hate cats lol

It depends on the class. I realize this laptop is heavier than most but i will take extra weight over a lack of performance any day

I guess the laptop will weigh less than an average schoolbag filled with books from about third grade up. And you're most likely not going to carry it with you on a cross-country hike, either, or while playing basket ball or - my imagination is driving me nuts thinking about a college football team with all that padding and a laptop in a backpack :rofl

My imagination is going nuts thinking about a high school offensives tackle actually making it on the team lol

I had a heavy performance laptop once at work. It seemed like a good idea when buying it but I ended up hating it because it was just too uncomfortable to lug around. Luckily it did like laptops do, broke down.
