Title: NOVA: B-29 Frozen in Time
Post by: ArcticKat on August 16, 2012, 11:13:15 PM

If you want to see a similar but larger scale recovery project of a B-29 found on the ice that will just break your heart check out PBS's episode of Nova called "B-29 Frozen in Time" about the recovery of a B-29 called "The Kee Bird". Watch it to the end.

Drano

Found the Nova episode on YT. If you havent seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u4YBwjQTds&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u4YBwjQTds&feature=related) :salute

Nova is pretty awesome.
That's one thing that gets me. PBS churns out legendary stuff like this that nobody else will cover in such intimate detail without turning it into a "reality show" and people want to pull the plug.

Spoiler: Damned APU!

Yeaaa...

Blame an inanimate piece of equipment for Darryl Greenamyer's incompetence and impatience.

This story has come up on this board multiple times, do a search and you'll learn I don't have a very high opinion of the man.  He cost a man his life on this expedition and recklessly endangered everyone involved multiple times.

Watched it once and honestly all most threw up at the end.

Did you see me waving a Darryl flag or did I miss something? No matter how you paint it, the fire started at the APU. Whether it was the rough taxi, metal fatigue, rotten fuel lines, corrosion or just plain old bad luck... the fire started at the APU.

Same here. It still hurts to watch it.

I watched that video once years ago. Now the tape gathers dust on a shelf. I will never watch it again.

No I'm telling the honest truth. I really did find one at the bottom of Lake Mead and participated in raising it. Some other folks took it away, worked on it for quite a while and eventually had it up flying around.
