Title: Guild Wars 2
Post by: Grayeagle on August 17, 2012, 09:37:12 AM
Just bought Guild Wars 2 so I can get into the 3-day headstart when it releases ..
..means I will be in my tights and tutu on Aug 25th.

They are tryin to make a better world to adventure in
..based on all the things we all hate about fantasy based MMO's
..and I think they are gonna hit a home run.

Some things to ponder for those of us who have put on tights and grabbed our sword to go hunting in the past...

*no* healer class
..no more grinding a class because it's *needed* even tho it is as boring as it gets.
..no more LFH for bla-bla-bla ..
Every class will have a heal skill of its own *and* can revive every other class if they go down in a fight.
This is a game changer.

*no* subscription
Thinkin they may offer cool bits for sale ..otherwise I have no idea how they will sustain their world.

Character variety/storylines
Not gonna be a cookie-cutter character here baby.
Yes .. you *can* wear a pink tutu!!
No really.

a 'guide' that goes a long way further than I do explaining GW 2..

http://imperiouspariahs.enjin.com/forum/m/6424424/viewthread/3502399-everything-you-need-to-know-get-started-on-guild-wars-2

just a taste of character creation ..fun to listen to :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3w6FqcXvLE&feature=relmfu

There are a lot of video's out already from the beta tests ..
..what can I say .. it just captured me.

I will be in Alpha Legion on launch,
nice bunch of people to hunt with ..met some in EQ2, ran with them in Rift.
Rift was the first MMO I ever focused on a single character to max level.
We did a lot of server first stuff ..was one of the first level capped rogues, was a bit of fun.

This is where we hang out :)

Having played GW 1 since beta, and after perticapating in the GW  2 beta weekend events,I can tell you this much.
GW2 is not a "updated version" of GW1 , instead its a continuation of the storyline.
New playable characters have been introduced,Norn/Asura/Sylvari/Charr.
Unlike GW1, in GW2 your character can only have 1 profession,no secondary
There is allso changes in professions, they ditched the monk/assasin/Paragon/Darvish/Ritualist
Now we are left with Warrior/Mesmer/Elementalist/Ranger/Necromancer/Engineer/Thief/Gaurdian
In GW 1 you had a vast selection of skills to equip,in GW2 they are very limited.
way to many other changes to get into right now,but so far in the beta testing i created a Norn Necro, a Charr Engineer, and a Human Elementalist.got ball of them up to level 10 very fast.
my wife and I both share the game so we took turns creating characters, she enjoyed the new scenery as much as i did.

alllmost forgot, the best change , now you can Jump and swim"including under water"  :lol i know id doesent sound like much, but i spent hours running around jumping off of bridges and cliffs luaghing my ars off.

From the horses mouth .. er .. so to speak:

"We will be conducting a stress test tomorrow Tuesday, August 21 from 12:00 Noon PACIFIC Time to 4:00 PM PACIFIC Time.

We will be actively working on the game during the event, so you might experience connectivity problems or discover features that are not working as designed.

Any issues you experience are a result of the rigorous conditions of the stress test, and are in no way representative of the state of the game at launch.

By participating in this stress test, you’re helping us make Guild Wars 2 a better game. Thanks for your cooperation—we’ll see you in-game!"

Cool .. see yas in game this weekend prolly.

I am not sure what character name will be yet ..
..tried for some of my DnD names from long ago and was a bit surprised that some were taken.
They are not run of the mill stuff :)

I may have to run a thief using a name Mullah from AW used now an then.
Clawd Bawlz is just such a perfect name for a dual dagger wielder type :)

I remember when I got GW a week after it was released.  Didn't stop playing it for a long time.  I eventually dropped out of it because two of my closest friends dropped out, both of whom I met EARLY in GW.  One dropped out before Factions was released, the other dropped out about a third into Factions time prior to Nightfall's release.  I was around till shortly before Nightfall's release regularly...  I do have Nightfall and Eye of North, but really haven't gotten too deep into them yet.

I still remember the days when doing the bonuses for Dune's of Despair, Dragon's Lair and Thunderhead Keep were by far the hardest Bonuses to get.  When being runned from Beacon's Perch to Droknar's Forge would cost 5k and people would actually try to party up with regular setups for Fissure of Woe and Underworld (though it was getting rare when I got to this point for The Underworld).  FEW people even knew of The Granite Citadel existence...

The one thing that urked me the most, with the 2nd thing to piss me off being what they did with Peace and Harmony, was when A-Net decided to nerf my FAVORITE skill...Penetrating Attack.  That skill NEVER left my bar unless ABSOLUTELY necessary (I used it when Ranger Spike teams were just starting to become a dominating force the 1st time around.  Pissed off a few folks because of it, but worked quite well against those W/R teams that started to show up as well).  It was the one skill I dreaded during my MANY hunts of Charr in Pre-searing.  They messed with it's Mana cost the first time around, if I recall correctly (I'll have to dig up the strat guide.  Can't remember if it came with the CE or if one of my friends gave it to me.  It'll definitely tell me what the reqs where then).  While it did hurt, I figured a way around it during my salvo's.  It's when they dropped it's 25% armor pen to 10% that really rendered the skill almost useless for me.  While I keep it in my bar for the most part, I can no longer use it seriously as I use to. :bhead

Sadly, when I log into GW now, everyone uses hero's.  If you don't have x hero with y skills, get ready to be kicked.  So dead in Tyria missions, ESPECIALLY the desert missions.  You think it was hard getting into a team as a Ranger then?  Ha!  I WISH for those days...

Clawd Bawlz, thumb size theif ..just hilarious to watch either with pistols or daggers.
..and my 'main' ..
Skyl the Gray ranger, human ..got bow?

Man .. ever feel like you have to take a break now and then from doin too much.. from .. a game?

Enjoying this so far. I find myself kind of lost. Missions don't seem to be obvious...you really need to go looking for them. When you do find them, they seem to be in the form of a world event. I'm still new, so not sure though.

The storyline missions are a lot of fun but from what I have seen, you can't just run through them real quick or you find yourself under-leveled and not be able to complete them. You need to hunt for random missions/world events like mentioned above.

The PvP arena, or World Vs World (WvW) has a lot of potential. The way it is structured is great, and the battlefield is massive with a bunch of objectives that can be completed/captured. My only gripe is I am already starting to notice that some worlds seemed to be stacked with better guilds, therefor they absolutely dominate WvW. I jumped in a WvW match last night and I barely made it out of the staging/portal area before I ran into a swarm of 50+ bad guys. Thought I was playing Aces High for a second  :lol

I have a Norn(I think that's what it is called?) Warrior and a Charr Ranger. I enjoy melee fighting for PvE, but prefer the range for PvP. Still being a noob I am much more effective if I just sit back and snipe.

So far the only major hiccup has been their Trading Post ..it has been tits up since launch pretty much.

A coupla stutters along the way ..when it's up it looks like harvesting and crafting will be lucrative money makers.
I am runnin up huntsman for makin bows and guns ..can make some pretty amazing bits at skill of 200 (50th level weapons)
..a crafter can actually make a rare item if he has the right bits.

I made a bow that is better than any drop I have seen to date.. and it even looks cool :)

The leveling bug hasn't bitten me ..I spend days real time just goofin off ..
..it's fun to run low level zones as your char scales to the zone ....
..you can't just wade into 'em thinkin yer all that because you will have your butt handed to you :)
Every fight/event is a good one .. I am so sucked in.

There's even an 'Overkill' acheivement .. I shot a bunny for 10,600 pts of damage just for laffs.. single shot, no buffs on :)

I need to work on crafts but have no idea where to start. I'll need to look up some guides.

Buster if you press H, find your pvp tab and port to Heart of the Mists you can do 8v8 pvp or 5v5 if you've got some buddies, and avoid the hordes :-)

Edit: here is a great crafting guide http://gaiscioch.com/tavern/guildwars_crafting/post_35198.html

I would just make people mad if I joined a 5v5 team. I would definitely not help them out any  :(

Thanks for the guide!

I liked the PvP on GW1..

Does anyone know some good 5v5 comps?

My guess would be Ele,Guardian, Warrior,  Necromancer, Hunter maybe?

mesmer + thief are probably the best two sPvP classes atm...engineers seem to do great too

any combination can work, it's all about the teamwork really

Human ranger, Noble birth, adopted Gray as his signature color as he did not like standing out in a crowd, preferring to listen and observe the currents in any social event from the periphery. The better to discern the truth and make correct decisions.

His first pet, Chang, amazed him with the loyalty and unabridged love as he grew, later the ferocity in battle truly made his pet an ally in all he did.
Sometimes he felt he was the pet and Chang was his Master, especially when it was feeding time!

He left Divinity's Reach seeking to do what he could to fight the corruption of Tamria, for it seems it is spreading everywhere, even in Divinity's Reach.

'Got Bow?' is his trademark saying

.. he has Bow.

Thing about groupage in GW2 .. makeup is secondary .. gotta be able to run the character.
All can heal, revive, DPS, tank or kite, it's up to the player to learn the character and be effective with it.

I still have a long way to go before I know what 'best' setup works for this or that just on my Ranger.
That said ..we smoked my first dungeon run, boss mobs dropped on first tries, kinda ripped thru the dungeon.
We all died a few times, but the mechanics of revival prevented a wipe
..there was always someone layin the smack down :)

Heck even my pet can go revive someone if I load that trait.
Came in handy :)
Didn't have to break stride on my strafing runs :)
Boom an Zoom baby!

I'm really getting into it now myself, too.

I didn't realize that anyone could harvest any node, so I had been ignoring them when I saw them. I'm now mining every rock, picking every plant and cutting every tree that I can. I'm going to get a good stockpile and sell what I don't need.

I started working on Jeweling last night a bit. That guide coombzy provided was really helpful. I'm interested in playing with the discovery process and learning new recipes. I got my first area 100% complete (Wayfarer Foothills). You get a nifty chest with some goodies in it for completing a zone.

I think I'm going to start looking for a guild within the next week or so. Being a noob, I have a lot of questions which hopefully guildies could help me answer.
