When the moderators edit and lock the OP's topic with "See rule #..." keep original subject in the thread. Trying to decipher what everyone is talking about in the thread after its locked is like :cry :x :bhead :furious and at least we would know what everyone was talking about and have a laugh instead of :headscratch:

well considering that it's locked because of something that shouldn't be posted. then what would be the point of locking it if the original message is there?

True...but at least we get to know what the subject was. When you read replies " In before it gets locked" or posts related to the topic, it makes more sense.

I had a post removed for simply stating a historical correct casualty figure for the civil war and the correct cause of the causalities. I was confused why it got the boot but everyone is not a history geek like I am. Someone that is a product of the public school system may not understand what they are reading and what it means so they toss the post thinking it is a political statement of some kind. The country is plagued by political correctness don;t take it personal.

We prefer to moderate post rather then locking a topic.
Our normal policy is , just as you ask, if we see a thread that needs to be locked , we lock it and don't do further moderation unless it is copy write/porn excetera.
But what happens many times is we start reading a thread, start moderating a few post in the thread, and then later decide it's time for the entire thread to be locked. But at that time we the posts have already been moderated.

Even if the original thread topic might get changed, the replies still include the original title.

Fud, stupid stuff like "IN BEFORE THE LOCK!" or "in" just means people are saying they're 'IN' the thread before it gets/got locked, or at least thats what I think :D

I probably wasnt as clear as I should have been....here's a link to an example http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,337996.0.html. Note the OP's post was edited "see rule # 14" and it would be awesome if we knew the subject was so the replies made sense. I guess this would ease the curiousity? :aok

I think the second reply tells you all you need to know as to what the OP said

it gets edited out because it's something that should not have been posted. If they leave it on for everybody to see even if the thread gets locked then you would have a lot of people posting all kinds of crap for everybody to see even it the thread is locked.
imagine how many vote for this guy or this other guys is a lier threads we would have now that election time is close?

I understand why it gets locked, just leave the original subject instead of editing it. When you read an in depth response to a subject title of " see rule #...." makes you wonder what the subject was.

because ah decided it should not have been posted to begin with. they left the title on, on the message you linked to. use Google to find it, if you feel that you must waste 22 minutes listening to some nonsense.

I see no reason to alter the way you do it now. Don't let them push you around HT. :D
