A friend of mine with land up in whine country Cali asked me this. He lives on a area of land that is on the outskirts and it is a hot zone for illegal activity being a good mile or two away from residential/urban area and wev found/seen some disturbing stuff (including finding a puppy that seemed to be wrapped and drowned in a cooler full of water on one of the back roads and finding all sorts of drug containers and at times even syringes). Police are either rarely or never seen down these rural dirt roads. Now we tend to try to look away and not let there illegal activities bother us when its outside the fenced property however even with no trespassing signs we still find people driving up and trespassing to do whatever illegal activity at 3am or so. Our question being, is it illegal to have a "trespassers will be shot sign" in the state of cali? Now keep in mind that nobody is going to be shot and it is only meant to scare criminals away

Not sure but I think the sign probably is legal. The action is not though. I would also check with at Napa/Sonoma county laws regarding the sign.

Actually you post that sign down in that area you may have more trespassers than you can handle. :bolt:

This is sadly true. Also, I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to fire unless harm to a person/home is imminent. From what I've read, the sign however is legal.

When I came to look at my house for the first time it had a sign in the yard that read "Trespassers after dark will never see daylight." I dont know how anyone could see it after dark though. :D

Yes the signs are legal.. But the police will give you crap about having them..
Despite their own inability to remedy the situation..
Something to remember, you may be required by some fatheaded dummy, to BACK IT UP..

Not sure about the law but I think you'd be better covered by posting a simple No Trespassing sign. If you have to shoot someone it will not look like you were wanting to. Lawyers who love criminals will dig up anything to make you look bad. The sign if it says they will be shot, the name of the gun if it sounds agressive, the name of the bullits for the same reason.

Set up game cameras and then go to the police. Small town....you probably know them.

Go buy a few dozen bear traps and set them out on the property with some "No Trespassing" signs along the fence. When you hear screaming in the middle of the night just call the cops and tell them you got one. :devil

Would be fun to have, except that I'm certain that booby-traps are illegal in any state.

What are you talking about officer, I've never seen those bear traps before. Maybe there are bear poachers as well as junkies trespassing onto my property. Maybe you guys need to start patrolling out here more.

Angst is a German word to describe fear/anxiety, that has jumped to the English
Language. Yes, we do use it in the states. ie, Teen angst.
